I haven't used either of these films all that much to really get to know them, as I usually use Kodak Plus X (which I know FP4+ doesn't look like). But Im wanting to buy a box of one of these two in 8x10 format, and want to get an idea of the look each one gives before making a choice. They are both old school emulsions, with the same type of grain. But other then that, I can't characterize the look. Any comments? Use will be either portraits or landscapes.

I use both films, but only the Adox in 4x5. They both are great for landscapes, but cannot comment on portraits as I have never taken one in my photographic life.

There's about a $70 price difference per box between the two, so I'd like to see if the Adox is more to my liking. If it looks more like Plus X then the Ilford, that may decide it for me.

I develop only with Pyrocat-HD. Not sure why they don't recommend it. Looks great to me.

I have shot the Adox in 4x5.. In 4x5 I think it is just a smoother toned negative. compared to the Ilford, it's been awhile.. "FrankenCarrot" and Lisa and Jack.
The last one I missed the focus a bit with the Speed Graphic. I like the tones. I think the Adox has better mid tones than the FP4. It also changes with what developer you use.

Here is an article about the Adox CHS II 100 film. http://www.theonlinedarkroom.com/2013/10/adox-chs-100-ii.html

I should probably go shoot some to be sure. :D

After looking at some pictures on Flickr of Adox CHS II 100, I really like the look it is giving. Its a gorgeous film. I like its deep blacks and better mid tones. It seems to have a little more contrast as well in some pics I've seen. Blacks aren't as washed out and are better defined. FP 4+ seems to be a touch flatter with less tones (less character). So I guess Adox is what I'll be ordering in 8x10.

Emulsion lift off, there has been a discussion about it on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/groups/46375612@N00/discuss/72157661586924381/. Don't know if it is still an issue now that Adox does its own coating.

There is a blog post detailing the minor differences: http://www.theonlinedarkroom.com/2013/10/adox-chs-100-ii.html

No issues of pinholes or emulsion lifting with Pyrocat-HD that I can see... CHS II is a very nice film and will use up the couple of boxes I have left.
I'll stick with FP4.
