While in Istanbul last week I saw Ilford 35mm slide film on the shelf of a stockist.

They had very large supplies of all the Ilford B&W films in 35mm & B&W but no sheet films, but what surprised me was the fresh Ilford 35mm Diapositive film, obviously made by Ferrania as it said made in Italy.

Perhaps not so surprising because Ilford B&W films seem to dominate the market in some countries (outside Europe & North America)and are far easier to find than Kodak, as is Foma.

Ilford's last slide film was Ilfochrome, made for them by Sakura (Konica), that name is now used instead of Cibachrome by the Swiss company who manufacture the former Ciba products.

I suspect it's a marketing/distribution deal. Kodak seem to concentrate mainly on the colour negative market through minilabs etc and their marketing to more specialist photo-stores seems to have broken down in many countries. That may be a major consequence of their pulling out of B&W paper manufacture.

Ilford on the other hand seem more active with their international distribution of Paterson products as well.

I would have bought some but there's no E6 processing at all where we live, Istanbul is 6 hours drive

If I'm in Istanbul again this year I'll pick some up. There's no Diapositive film showing on Ferrania's website.

Wonder if it's any good - I really don't like Ferrania's Solaris colour neg.

It's a bit curious, though - Lupus Imaging's Agfa-branded slide film is rumoured to be rebranded Kodak - since Lupus is already using Ferrania for cutting and finishing the B&W and for distribution, why wouldn't they also use Ferrania's slide film? Unless this Ilford deal took precedence, or people are wrong and the Lupus slide film actually is Ferrania as well...

I find Solaris quite a nice film. More portra NC than Ektar if you get my drift, good for doing shots of old buildings. Gives a nice almost hand tinted effect.

Pays your money and shoots your film...

I thought Ferrania had gotten out of the film business. Did they change their minds?

The latest Lupus/Agfa CT Precisa which I purchased last month says "Made in Japan" on the box (not rumour, it's here by the laptop  ).
