Ilford Delta 100 and Rodinal

Hi

I'm having some Ilford Delta 100 which I want to develop in Rodinal 1+50 with the times I found on Massive DevChart. Any recommendation on which speed I shoot at. 50, 100 or 125? I will be shooting portraits and landscape with this combo.
Anyone who has a comment on that combo and recommendations on speed and dev.time.

I've found that a speed of 50-80 gives the results I want with my system. Delta 100 and Rodinal are actually a nice combination. Just watch out for blown highlights.

Be carefull not to overdevelope. At the recommended 1+50, 9min, 68F, 4 inversions every minute, I ended up with bad definition, excessive grain and blown highlights. The results hardly enlarged more than 5x without detail falling apart. If I had to do it again I would rather cut times to 7:30.

I found my lost thread 'bout Delta 100.

I have now tested the combo at 12-15 minutes in Rodinal 1+50 (68 F, 10 sec. inversion every minute) and find 13:30 minutes doing the job for me when shooting portraits and 14-15 minutes when shooting anything else. What are your comments on my times. Massive Dev Chart says 14:00 minutes.

That sounds like the time for 1+25, though. But thanks for comment.

Did you end up shooting iso 50 as silverpixels5 recommended or did you go higher?

Interesting ... I've just tried Delta 100 rated at 100 in Rodinal 1+50, 20 C, 10 sec twiddling every minute, 14 minutes. The grain is stronger than I'd expect from Delta 100. Highlights are slightly blown and I'll reduce the dev time next time round.

Yes. The highlights are on the blowing side, but to hit the contrast I like I do it that way. The grain issue...yes, it is a bit grainy but I like that, too.

Thanks! Your comment warms my heart!

I think I have good control over Delta 100 and Rodinal now. The negatives prints very easily. No reason to print on grade 4 or grade 0. The portraits are great on grade 2 EVERY time!
I will be using this combo from now on as I really like the tones better than the ones of Pan F+. But how long will the Ilford range be available? I would be sad to face that I need to experience with a new film for portraits and still-lifes.

Morten, My only prediction for the future is that the Ilford range will continue to be available, even if it gets produced by some other manufacturer in the future. The UK had a long history of producing excellent products which fail under poor management and get bought up my overseas companies who have a long success with the product. I'm sure the Ilford range will fall into the same hall of fame and we will be using the materials for many years to come. I even managed to get hold of a load of Delta 3200 again from my local supplier this week

Beautiful picture!! I think you have tamed the Delta 100 beast!

I have fought like a tiger with Delta 100 in Rodinal in the past (shot @ iso 100) and found that I liked it much better at iso 50. But I'm going to give it another shot with your application!

Thanks. I will try it your way @ 50. I like it @ 100, but @ 50 it could be a great substitute for Pan F+. I am about to test Delta 100 at different speeds to get a slow film for almost all my stuff. I try it @ 25, 32, 50, 64, 80, 100 and 125 to see what will work and what will not.
