"What does the moon care when the dogs bark at him"

Ilford is planning no discontinuation of photographic bw films in 2018.

As I remember correct there has been no simple bw emulsion from Ilford wich was discontinued in the past without a reformulated following. (REPLACED NEW FILM).
As one example : Fp4 !
(The film has gone but today we have
Ilford Hp5 instead)

What is your point? Are you missing a film from Ilford ?

with regards

Sorry Hp4 of cause is meant as one example!

pls. forgive me.....:D:laugh::whistling:

Again?!? <sigh>

And now,for something completely different......

Alan the point here should be quite clear.
We saw discontinued films from many manufacturers.
Ilford made restructions - if I remember correct 3 times in the past.
Prices from Ilford films increased much more as one could imagine
The point is - therefore Ilford hasn't discontinue any film in the past.
So (if I may allowed to state) could we imagine a future with further discontinued films (also in bw).
I state we should be prepared.
But if Ilford would survive - I am sure they will - could we live with Ilford films?
As we would only have Ilford bw ?
And now look at the portfolio of Ilford again.
It is quite remarcable - but Ilford has all films we would need!
Are you missing one emulsion from the past (old Ilford bw films) ?
I can't remember that Ilford stopped normal films (to photographic use) ever.
Without bringing out the improved new emulsion.

Yes, they have discontinued Delta 400 and XP2 (not SUPER) in 4x5 in.

OK - I see Ilford XP2 is discontinued.
The new film from Ilford now is not avaible in 4x5 (XP2 Super).
Yes - some films from Ilford (like your example shows) are not avaible in all formats.
Before some english teachers will insist soon - pls. give me the chance to make it more clear :
ILFORD INDEED DISCONTINUED FORMATS.
YES - that is correct - but the films are still there.
With XP2 Super you will get it in 35mm and in 120.
(Other manufacturers BEGAN with discontinued sheed films and ended with stopping the full emulsion in all formats.)
Thats a real difference - I would like to state Ilford hold on their films and therefore : RESPECT !

I have nothing but respect for Ilford. I'm not sure about the purpose of this thread though.

The purpose of this thread is a simple question : Would you be happy if all other
manufacturers would stop bw film - but
ILFORD would then deliver its todays portfolio?
Because this might be the future in some years.
Not a question of total pettiness from my point.
Like the question of wich film in winter?
Or the question of reciprocity in the 30th?
Would you there ask for purpose?
I wouldn't - but I also have NO Idea of 30th films.
Have you a guess of an old Ilford film possible I have forgotten?
So you help me much to feel I am right - because Ilford havn't any film discontinued in the past (without bringing the improved new film) ?

with regards

PS : I have an idea of min. one film is missing.:whistling:

What if... what if...
What if Hitler had died of terminal flatulence in 1918??

There. Godwin is satisfied.

Thank you, not at all clear in your OP.
To answer your question: Not at all!

There might by other constellations.

Quite right - I would NOT follow such scenario in total. You might have other
manufacturers who will survive.
But I would definitive not count on Fuji
also not on Kodak with focus on bw.
But Ilford is a favourit to me.
Because they have REAL profits from whole portfolio.
Thats the difference - think about AgX

Godwins law should be not varified here.

Simon Galley stated many times in the past, when he was the Ilford rep on this forum, that Ilford would take no new actions which might endanger their current films. They would not introduce any new films or products if it might hurt sales of existing products. So far, it seems that new management is sticking to that philosophy. From what I can gather looking at the last financial statements from Harman, the film division was profitable, but not wildly so. I have little doubt that any product not "pulling its weight" will be discontinued.

But the danger is less with the main films
in Ilfords portfolio in the main formats.
To this time one has always to add.
Other situation with Fuji. And Kodak seams to be not think about future in bw.
Remember the backing paper desaster.
Who will seriously believe there is NO problem this time with Kodaks bw production.
Also if they solved backing paper problem.

Ilford films are mainly what I use, so if other manufacturers stopped producing film, it wouldn't bother me... although I'd surely miss TMY and Acros and Rollie IR and...

I recall that Hp5+ is their biggest selling film (though FP4+ runs it close in the UK market) but the Delta films seem to be more efficient to manufacture (emulsions made on more high-tech plant along with the classic/ cooltone/ warmtone papers apparently). Inane speculation isn't going to change that, but is increasingly irritating & perpetrated by a handful of repeat offenders.

I have Delta 100 in focus as the Ilford
"bestseller" but you are right.
Just remember so many threads here regarding Hp5.
Well - the day ILFORD would anounce to discontinue Hp5 in 35mm shall be the same day ILFORD stops existing.
