It in possible to use a Ilford multigrade 500H head for colour enlarging with the under lens filters?

Not really, the blue & green filters are always in the light path, there is no white light option. It is not easy to remove the filters either - risk of breakage. You'd be better off looking for a proper Dichro head for your enlarger.

Thanks George. I can access another enlarger if I want to have a go at colour enlarging. Just saves me trying something that wont work.

That's basically my plan as well. I have an Omega D5 with a Dichro head waiting in the basement. I also have a couple Beseler heads on standby. Taking the Ilford head off the Beseler 45 isn't too much trouble.
