OK I have another question. How the heck did you load the paper? Did you use a 'regular' back? I assume you can't use a Polaroid 545i back since it doesn't have a dark slide, right? Also, I assume you cut the paper down to size too.

Wait a sec ... you used an 8x10 camera. Drats. OK, above questions are for anyone else.

Thanks for taking the time to share your work with all of us.

In a similar vein, I have been considering exposure of B/W paper in camera, and then reversal processing the paper. If I ever get around to it, I'll post examples.

In the next issue of Magnachrom there will be a few examples (and at least one disaster) of 12x16 in-camera Ilfochromes taken with my 14x17 Lotus View camera.

Hi all,

with a delay of only eight years I managed to put together a video. I know, I know, Ilfochrome and its chemistry are gone by now, but it may still be useful to capture this how-to for historical reasons. And then - who knows - maybe it comes back ...

My apologies for the mediocre quality of the video (I am just not good at), the content will hopefully compensate for that. My apologies for my embarrassing English pronunciation, nothing will compensate for that

Don't worry about the years, try a few decades...

When I was using Ciba in '85 (sorry) there was an option of a transparency version for a light box presentation, it was supposed to be long life in front of fluoro tubes... It would have made for a 8x10 cut film holder.

When I shot Kchrome25 I had a box of CC filters to use within two hours of Sun set, and even shifts from and to tungsten/daylight, and a grey card in the gbag.

I will check out the video. I have a box of Ilfachrome paper and two chemical kits untouched. Probably the last that was solt by Calumet

I just finished watching the video and I did enjoy it. It's a very good explanation of the process - for technical and historical purposes.
And very well explained. I also learned a valuable lesson about the way of calculating the filtration.

It's also a nice plee for in-camera photography. If I may quote mammolo:

“ …how challenging, intoxicating and beautiful in-camera photography can be: in one shot you capture one instance. It can’t be reproduced. That’s it: you’ve got that very one instant that never comes back on paper, on one single piece of paper. …”

That's why I like pinhole photography with paper negatives so much. I bought the last pack of Ilfochrome paper and chemistry from Calumet several years ago to experiment with it in-pinhole-camera. Time passed and I didn't do it yet for I have too many plans and experiments to conduct and life keeps interfering. I was thinking of selling the kit to someone ho could actually use it, but now my interest is peeked again. Unfortunately I haven't got a pinhole camera large enough for this paper size, but that can easily be build also.

One question: is it possible for me to get the "Ilfochrome Bible" sheets you showed in the video? And maybe you could scan it and post it as PDF files with the video for posterity as well?

The color balance has probably long since shifted; and expect serious highlight crossover. It had probably gone off well before Calumet ever
sold it. But there might still be some fun factor left in the paper.
