Hi,
I would like to make some enlargements of the highest quality in 40x50 or 50x60 format. I'm wondering if I'll see the differences between fixed-gradation paper and FB multigradation paper. Can you help me and give me some hints about the differences? other than gradation of course.

When Ilford released the first FB Multigrade as well as Gallerie there were distinct differences. However as MG papers were improved the subtle differences between Graded and MG papers narrowed and modern MG papers are as good as graded papers and have effectively replaced them.

Agfa dropped Record RApid and replaced it with MCC, which I found just as good, later I switched to Forte Polywarmtone which was superb, I have a little left from the last coating run. Now I use Ilford MG Warmtone FB another excellent paper,

Ilfobrom (non-Galerie) has been gone for decades. The Galerie is basically discontinues with a bit of old stock running around still. The only current choices for graded paper that I know of are Foma and Slavich, the latter not available in the U.S. any more.

VC papers are quite good and just about the only game in town. You might as well just learn to use them.

Checking Freestyle Photo, they list 34 graded papers with the majority grade 3 and 242 Multigrade papers. Of course many are rebanded house papers, still, just not much left in graded papers. I still have a couple hundred sheets of Foma grade 2, will be replacing with VC paper.

Perhaps, may I suggest you to have a look at the FOMABROM FB VARIANT papers as a possible alternative?

PS: I don't want to start a ILFORD vs FOMA thing, absolutely not!!!

Galerie and Oriental were the two FB papers I loved best, (I don't know why I didn't use Kodak FB) in grade three (3) but old Fiber Based papers that don't have a whitener built in, can still be good finds, especially if properly stored.

When Slavish (sp?) was available in the U.S I used a lot of it, grade 2 and 3, single and double wt. Reminded my of Agfa Brovira 70s version.

I liked Slavich but it fell off the map quickly. I got many years of joy from Forte Polygrade....& absolutely loved Fortezzo graded. Never met a Foma FB paper i didn't like.....but not much in stock at B&H these days. Glad i still have some. And i have to admit that Ilford Warmtone is pretty reliable and a fine paper.

Galerie is effectively discontinued, just one grade and two sizes 7"x9.5", and 8"x10" is all that's left in stock at Ilford.

The three current Ilford Multigrade FB papers are superb.

A slightly different question . Are there currently only 2 paper manufacturers excluding Adox which does not produce MCC

Foma sells a grade 2 paper, Retro, from 8X10 to 20X24. I have a couple hundred sheets left, I like it as it tones well.
