I goofed;sawa manual <micro Nikkor f/3,5 at KEH and couldn't resist .the lens arrived and is in beautiful shape. But when mounted to my D800, the set f/stop does not show in the command panel;neither in A or in M mode. The lens works at any stop but I like to see what it is set to and have that data in the EX-IF file too.programming it into the non-CPU lens list did not work.what else can I do?
thanks for the help and sorry if dumb question.the manual did not help me.
The camera can't differentiate one manual lens from another, so if others work that's very odd. Maybe it's a pre AI lens. Did you force it onto the camera? The pre AI lenses will break the AI follower tab on the D800.
I have one of the 55mm f/3.5 lenses. It's a great lens, but I can't use it directly on my D800. Works fine with tubes or the bellows.
Yup but the point is it will clear the Ai tab. The M2 tube lacked any sort of aperture connection between lens and camera and required stop-down metering. It won't talk to your D800. so no EXIF relay but should give you a meter reading when stopped down. There are Ai'd 55/3.5s knocking around and also later 55/2.8s but your NAI 55/3.5 won't fit any Ai body--film or digital--that lacks a flip-up Ai tab. Think the Df has this feature.
understood;thanks;I'll try it.However the lens is on its way to be AI'edat James White. If this works wekll, he is getting four more.I'm a big fan of 1970s glass.

Then you're set with no need for an M2. If you do want to go 1/1 with the Ai-d 55/3.5, you can use the later 27.5 PK-13 Ai tube that will send aperture settings thru the works to EXIF readouts. Have several pretty old Nikkors--85/1.8 and 80-200/4.5--I can't bring myself to have Dremel-ed and Ai-d. Ai kits surface occasionally but usually only for oddball lenses now.
