If you could only use 1 f-stop for an entire year...

If you could only use one f-stop for an entire year what would you choose? Are you going to go for the wide open selective focus look or maybe just the staple f 8 and be there or maybe closed right down to get lots of dof.

Me, if I had to choose one f-stop for an entire year I would choose one that would make me stretch a bit in the way I create images, not my usual mode of picking the f-stop to get what I want in focus and what I don't want out of focus.

I think I would choose wide open which on my current crop of lenses is f2. Maybe the look has been beat to death, but I think it would be fun.

Remember this is the 35mm Camera and Accessories forum. What you would do in MF and LF doesn't count here. To bad so sad. So there.

I do too. Drab sad days and have slow film (KR64) and being uninspired. I need spring, and some holidays at a different place.

Well, I picked up f2. It's good enough for some indoor shooting and shade, which is 75% of my photography.
Otherwise I'd go f5.6 or f8.

I did just before going to the dentist this afternoon to get a temp crown. Now I am feeling like I need a big glass of the falling down water as Les M calls it.

I'd hate to be stuck shooting at one f-stop for a year. If I had to, I'd pick 5.6. My lens is a 70-200mm F/4 lens, and I've found that the "sweet spot" for sharpness is F/8. I shoot at F/8 when it's sunny, but I've shot at F/4 when I've had to. I think if I had to pick one f-stop for one year, F/5.6 would be the best compromise.

As a portraitist, I shoot almost everything wide open at f/2.8. You haven't listed that one, though, so I didn't vote.

well, depends on the format - f4 is pretty fast for 11x14" coverage whereas I have a f0.95 for 16mm cine ...

I chose f/4.5. I shoot MF rangefinders and not being able to see depth of field sometimes it's fun to be surprised by shots taken near wide open. So for me, I'd go f/4. Love the bokeh!

I often shoot wide open, in available light, at night. I like fast lenses (f1:1.4) and monopods. I am not reluctant to use shutter speeds of 1/4 or 1/2 second, to get an image.
