Identifying Mystery Rolls

Hey folks,

I came across some unlabeled rolls of film in my fridge. They're either Kodak Double-X (Eastman 5222) or Tri-X. What's the easiest method to determine which they are? Can I just cut off a piece and fix it to read the edge markings?

You need to develop and fix it to see the edge markings.
Edge markings are created by exposing the edge of the film with light.

Can I add that there's no need to go to be too exacting in processing a sample....just a short length, maybe six inches, processed in a tray in the dark, in any available dev and fix, should work.
