As I slowly scan and catalogue my collection of negatives, some are over 30 years old. I have run into an issue, with more modern ones  Old negatives and modern B&W ones, are easily identified, for example on the edge of Ilford FP4 you will find the words ILFORD FP4 every so far, but colour negatives with the bar codes on the bottom, you will often find things like 200N F85A 4976, etc no manufacturer name or film model. Is there anyway to figure out what some of these films are. I know some are Fuji, some Agfa, some Kodak, some Konica, and some store brands in there, where it would be nice to know what film they were.

I don't have a bar code reader, so the bar code is no help, and these are in negative sleeves, from before I decided that it would be good to have this info, and started writing it down.

Okay, I see the Agfa marked their films the old fashioned way (putting the name at the top), or maybe they did this on only some of their products. As I look at more rolls, and I find out more, I'll post it here. If ANYONE knows how different companies mark their film, and can help identify different ones, please let me know.

One I am trying to figure out has a green stripe at the top, with red bars between some of the sprockets, looks like 4 then a gap of 4. If helpful I can scan some and post what the sprocket section looks like..... I used a bunch of this stuff, has the letters 200N and F85A in the space above the green stripe..... Was shot in late 2003 and early 2004.....

** More Info **

I have determined it's probably Fuji, and 200N is probably the speed (200 ASA Negative) Not sure what F85A is though.... Marking it Fuji 200N is probably OK though...

I am scanning my negative collection, and embedding the appropriate data into the EXIF of the scans. I wrote a small program C++ program to inject the appropriate data into the EXIF of the scanned image. One of these days, someone will do a double take, as the camera is identified as the Konica TC it was taken with. Funny when you go to see how many Megapixels that camera is and find it uses 135 film:D

The scanning is to beat the film fading before it takes hold, like it has with the old parts of the collection.....
