As I slowly scan and catalogue my collection of negatives, some are over 30 years old. I have run into an issue, with more modern ones  Old negatives and modern B&W ones, are easily identified, for example on the edge of Ilford FP4 you will find the words ILFORD FP4 every so far, but colour negatives with the bar codes on the bottom, you will often find things like 200N F85A 4976, etc no manufacturer name or film model. Is there anyway to figure out what some of these films are. I know some are Fuji, some Agfa, some Kodak, some Konica, and some store brands in there, where it would be nice to know what film they were.
I don't have a bar code reader, so the bar code is no help, and these are in negative sleeves, from before I decided that it would be good to have this info, and started writing it down.
