Hi,

I want to check something before ruining too much film and time. I have some Bergger bpf 200 sheet film 4x5. In the documentation it states that when the code notch is in the upper right hand corner the emulsion is facing me. However when I took out a sheet and placed the notch in the upper right hand corner I have the green shiny side facing me. That is the anti halation right?

When I load sheet film the short sides are pointing side ways. (It still confuses me hence this post.)

Regards,

Peter

The notches in sheet film (at least all that I have used) are on a short end and the emulsion is facing toward you when that short end is held at the top and the notches are on the right. he picture on the right side of this wikipedia entry shows how it is oriented to ensure that the emulsion is facing you.

Another tip to remember, and I learned this the hard way!
The emulsion side is facing YOU. Therefore, if you want to bend the sheet and secure with a rubber band for the "taco method" of developing, be sure to bend the EDGES of the sheet TOWARD YOU after taking it out of the film holder. The point of this teardrop shape should be toward you, and the curved end away from you, so that the emulsion is on the inside.

At least this time I loaded the film right.

Well, that's one better than me anyway. Today I shot some portraits and in the darkroom, opening the filmholder to develop the sheets... well. ahhh... no film inside!

I usally shake the film holder, if it's quiet, there isn't any film in it, if it makes noise we're good to go! I 've learned that one the hard way.

I sometimes do it the other way round. No there is no film inside...oops yes there was! I#ll give the shaking a try that could save some wasted photo`s as well
