It's not a G series Canon; it has a square lens shade and his finger is in the wrong place for the shutter button and he is looking through the viewfinder in the wrong place.

According to the article he likes the Leica M9 and S2.

Would his left hand be on the lens like that? It looks to me like he's focussing manually---the G series lenses don't have a focus ring, do they?

Unless he has really immense hands, I think it's a 35mm rangefinder of some sort.

I know this is a "democratic" site... but sick of all the "come lately" people that have shot a few dozen roll of film weighing in on everything when it's obvious they don't know much.

I have turned into one of the senior grouches on this site... I've shot/used more than $200,000 in consumables silver halide films in my life... and the equipment I use is worth many times what the cars I drive it around in is worth.

LOL, you got THAT right!! I didn't remember the password, but it seems like I was lucky enough to have used my current e-mail address for fetching the p/w.

But I am for real. After using D***l Nikons for 6 years I have recently purchased an F5, began shooting 5x7" pinhole and am researching rangefinders, souping pushed Tri-X in Rodinal via Stand Development, and loving the heck out of it! In fact, I have become a regular evangelist again for film, and I am grateful for all the info I have gleaned from APUG in the last month.

Excuse me, kind sir from adjoining state, but would you mind explaining who you might be referring to as a "come lately"? Lou Reed, the article says, has been photographing since the 60s and certainly has his credentials. Me? I'm certainly not "weighing in", I was simply asking a question about a camera. One, I might add, that has not been answered.

I never lurked. I signed up six years ago. Then, as I became primarily occupied with photographing Ballet, I turned digital, and dropped film. Recently I purchased a Nikon F5 and discovered the challenge of shooting dancers with Tri-X at 1600. Here, on APUG, I learned of Stand Development in Rodinal (something that was not popular when I was working with film before). I went to sign up, and learned I had already done so!!! Fetched my password back, and became a member.

My name is Keith Gerling. I am considered somewhat of an expert on gumprinting, at least many people think so and I have taught the process in workshops. My first camera was an Olympus OM-1. I own 4 OMs, two RB67s, a Mamiya 645 1000s, a Fuji 120 rangefinder, a Plaubel ProShift 120, an SL66, a Widelux f-8, a Deardorff 5x7", a Burke and James 8x10", a Nikon n75, a Nikon F5, and a Nikon D700 and well as many other Digital as well as some other Film cameras that I may have forgotten about. Its funny, you know: I have ZERO sentimental attachment to any digital camera and would chuck any of them in a ditch in a second, but i just can's seem to part with anything that uses film!

I hope this affords me the privilege of participating in your forum. I have learned much here. My re-discovered love for film has me looking seriously at rangefinders, and a Facebook friend that plays guitar for Lou Reed had this picture displayed, so I was curious. Thus my "first post". But it wont be my last. That is, if you all approve.

No wasn't calling you or Mr. Reed a "come lateley"
Just that people (some) are just guessing at the camera Mr Reed is using.
The image isn't high enough res to tell. To me it does look like it is a MF rangefinder or Leica with a winder it looks tall.. otherwise even with my experience I can't give a guess. I will stake my shutter finger it's not a new Voitlander.

Probably a Leica... he brought one into the store I work for for a repair during SXSW a few years back. Very disconcerting to be working along, look up, and Lou Reed is walking by your desk...

Nothing wrong with that... better than folks guessing and making smarmy comments that don't actually contribute... and people being grouchy about smarmy comments and people guessing.
