Hi,
I am looking at a good deal on a Beseler dual dichro S color head on ebay and I'm tempted to snag it but i'm not sure if it's got what it needs to function or if there are other things that I'd need or what.
I currently have a working 23CII at home and just wanted to know if this was a "bolt on" and go item for me or is there more to it?

Here is the auction link:

UPDATE: I ended up getting one "LNIB" but the same question applies I guess...am I in for any surprises?

Try to locate any manuals, parts lists or brochures to see if any other parts are needed for the conversion.

The dual dichro S has a integral power supply. The non-S version requires a separate power supply. The ebay listing was for a "S", not sure what your LNIB one is.

Unlike most colorheads, the Dual Dichro (both versions) can be used with the 23C condensers OR diffusion. The ebay listings did not show the diffusion assembly so it would be condenser only.

Small brackets are required to attach the colorhead to the enlarger head. I didn't see those in the ebay listing.

This manual, though not for the S version, should answer many of your questions.

Thanks for the help, that's a bummer that the diffusion assy isn't included. Here is the listing I finally bought:

IS THIS the diffuser and brackets? (on the right in the pictures)

The one you bought appears to be missing the diffusion piece and the brackets. I'm pretty sure you can use it without the diffusion but with the condensers, though not sure if that will give you the results you want.

The second link does show, as you asked, the diffuser and brackets.

I scoured every piece of information available before I bought a color head for my enlarger. I needed to make sure it would fit. Especially since the only way I could lift it up to assemble it was with the enlarger head on its side. Even worse I had to have my wife help hold it up while I tried to fasten the 4 bolts.
Fortunately for me (in many ways) the head fit.

That's quite an amazing setup

So everything seems to be ok. I have the dichro head mounted, I found one mounting bracket and have both the conic light integrator and the hex cell diffuser.
On monday when the real unit gets here I should be ready!

thanks for the help.

Just an update: The hex cell diffuser for the "non-S" does NOT fit the S model, it's smaller and blocks more light.

Also, I think though I'm not sure, the diffusion assy is a different diameter.
