There are Tim's in Spain, I saw some on Madrid and at the Motorway services somewhere in southern Spain. I was very surprised. Menu is similar to a Canadian Tims, but not as varied.

If you don't take an lovely old Rolleiflex to Cuba, you are completely missing out on the spirit of a trip there...

Good thing I don't have a Rolleiflex (my Rolleicord is close though!) The spirit of the trip is to spend quality time with my wife. I want to do, go, and see what she wants. No photography...but I will pull the phone out just to scratch the itch!

Hahahaha... good enough, and I do that when travelling with my wife as well. Mostly no film and sometimes no cameras at all.

You really need a camera. Maybe a smallish 35mm rangefinder or scale focus and fast film. You will see things that you want to photograph.

When I just want to travel for its own sake and photography is not a primary purpose, I bring a small digital for color and a small film camera for monochrome.

A Leica D-Lux Typ 109 along with a IIIf, fit that bill nicely. Both cameras are small, light, can be pocketed and do just a great job at their intended tasks. The IIIf with the collapsible Elmar is a real piece of stealth tech.

Thanks to creeping featurism and the people who feed on it, a 109 in nice shape can be had for reasonable money (for some definition of "reasonable").
 
Funny. On my recent trip to Morocco with my partner Barbara, who is also a photographer, I had decided not to take a camera, just to relax. "If you don't bring a camera I'm not going," she said.

If it makes you feel better, you are not alone.

Yesterday,I began printing the snow pictures from earlier this week and my 25+ year old Zone VI VC cold light head died - well the yellow light did. Replacement parts are nonexistent so I wrote a rather painful cheque to Catlabs for a new Heiland LED VC head.

I had planned to get one eventually and was sort of saving for it but one day of printing with the original Omega condenser and above the glass Ilford filters was so maddening, slow and error prone, I gave in an ordered the new head.

I guess I don't really need to eat this month.

Grrrrr.

(Have a nice trip).
 

Once you get it all set up, and have made a few prints, I'd love to hear your take on it.
Side note: Thank you for spelling cheque correctly!

Is English the goofiess language or is it just me?. I think I gave up on "the language arts" around 3rd grade. Something that is apparent to all. Arts and Sciences, that's my lane!
 
In another thread, Ralph mentioned the use of a special tool used to cock the shutter if it's been fired but the body hasn't. I googled it and it's called a FotodioX CameraKey. How many of you have one of these, or do you make due with a coin. The owner of the kit I'm interested in, just used a coin.

Why not take the Rolleicord and take pictures of your wife? Should be very interesting and nice backgrounds. You probably wouldn't regret the results. Unless she is camera-shy, of course.
 

I never bothered. I use a coin or a short-shaft screwdriver of appropriate width to re-cock.

Avoid long shafted tools for this. When you hand is further away from the point of contact with the lens, there is a tendency to slip. You don't want a screwdriver gouging the back lens element.

I'm sure the key is more convenient but it's one more thing to carry around (and lose).
 

I don't consider using a coin as "making due"; It is a very legitimate way to cock a Hasselblad lens.

The tool is very useful, however, for unjamming the 500c/m bodies and reducing the chance of colateral damage when they jam.

I use a coin. A UK penny works well. I've used a screwdriver once, but never again. The knack of it is to twist both hands in opposite directions so you can get more rotation than just twisting one hand.

One very nice thing about just taking a phone, and it beats cameras for this, is you only have one. If you were taking a camera along there would be hours spent on just deciding which one. Or, heaven forbid, how many! Oh, and then all the other goodies to go with said camera(s). Phone cameras have come a long, long way. At one time my grandson was interested in a certain camera out of my collection. I ask him a while back if he wanted it and I would send it to him. He told me forget it his phone does everything he wants and more. Damn kids nowadays!
