I'm not sure about this, but I've been thinking about it for a while. I hope people don't take this the wrong way too. Cross my fingers.

OK, so I have this feeling that there are a few APUGers who would like to join the print exchanges but can't afford to - let's face it, materials and postage can add up. So I was trying to devise a way to have some kind of 'money pool' set up so these folks can sign up.

Now, I don't want to know who these folks are. It's none of my business and that's where I got stuck. I'm willing to contribute to this pool, but I'm not sure how it can be done without invading people's privacy. There are other issues, like who assess need and the like, potential for abuse, what gets paid for, logistics, etc ...

Any ideas? Is it even a good idea? If not, then let's kill the thread.

Regards, Art. (I know - "no good deed goes unpunished" and the "the road to hell is paved with good intentions"... )

I think that everybody that can afford to maintain photography should be able to spend 15 Euro on postage...

Art, I fear you could be creating just more problems. There is a fraction of people already not up to their committment to the print exchanges; if on top of that they receive money coming from a tip-hat for not delivering up the print, then I fear there will be a form of "tax-payer resentment" going on from the part of the people who donated. This is not good.

I'm with Argus here: if you can actually afford to print your photos, you can afford to mail them. I've sent unmounted 8x10 RC prints in a PrintFile when that was all I could afford, and I don't think I've offended the recipients by doing so.

Maybe some of this could be dealt with by trying to organize more "local" print exchanges, here people could get the added benefit of meeting each other. Obviously, this would be of more benefit to someone like me, living in a large metropolitan area with a fair number of APUG members than someone more remotely located, but it might help some.
