I miss Lenswork magazine. Are there any current substitutes?

Paging through an old issue of Lenswork magazine reminded my how much I miss it. It was a little quirky and, of course, I didn't always agree with the editors' choices or opinions, but it unabashedly focused on photographers and photographs. They made a tremendous effort to put out a high quality printed magazine.

Can anyone recommend a current magazine (monthly, quarterly) that focuses on quality photography and quality production? It doesn't have to be exclusively photography. It can mix in some art and writing, but it needs to have a strong photography component.

Unless I am reading the Lenswork home page wrong it seems like 2019 is the last year. Time for Brooks to retire I guess.

I am hoping you are reading it wrong. I think the Seeing in Sizes project is in the Final Year, not the magazine.

Lenswork is doing fine - just got my renewal notice. Seeing in Sixes project is ending.

Wow. I don't know why I thought Lenswork was no longer being published. I used to pick it up at well-stocked newsstands and I no longer see it there. I'm pleased to be wrong about their demise, although it looks like the end is nigh anyway. Perhaps I'll stock up on some back issues I've never seen and treat them like new to me.

I'm still open to quality alternatives.

Ironically, although Lenswork is a US publication, the printed magazine is (or at least was) printed in Canada.
But it is hard to find in a store.
It doesn't look to me like the publication itself is in its last year, just the "Seeing in Sixes" project.
Brooks Jensens's book "Looking at Images" is also excellent - unfortunately it is sold out.

I think they stopped selling on newstands many years ago. Subscription only now.

I used to subscribe to View Camera in addition to Lenswork, but it is gone now of course.

Aperture has gone downhill since 20+ years ago....

For years, I subscribe to B&W Photography, but it's more an inertia than I found the images compelling. I too wish there are other mags besides Lenswork. UK's B&W Photo looks interesting, but expensive to ship.

Online photo mags are just not the same, IMHO.

It had been subscription only for the last few years, but I think it's coming back to newsstands. I've been getting it for years and it's my favorite. I do get B&W as well and sometimes find the British B+W at Barnes and Noble.

In October 2018 I bought there 25th anniversary issue from a B&N news stand

Looks like it alludes to the Seeing in Sixes portfolios.

LensWork magazine is going strong with no indication of disappearing. However, "Seeing in Sixes" is another matter; I believe this is the end for it. The LensWork "Monograph Series" is now at issue #15 with more planned. Agreed, online is not the same; need that smell of fresh ink and feel of paper!
