wonder if it could be programmed for black and white film processing ? if it could run 4x5, that would be very sweet
 
These machines take specialized chemicals -- specialized in how they are packaged, portioned, etc., that is. I'd be concerned about the availability of those specialized products a few years down the road.

They also take a lot of maintenance and quality control, as I recall from my high school days working in a 1-hour lab!
 
Fuji and Noritsu minilabs are often sold very cheap now and most of them can do 120/220 as well as 35mm. I don't think any minilabs can process 4x5. As for BW processing, remember that these machines were designed for the c-41 process, each tank is sized precisely to give the correct time in each of the chemicals used in the C-41 process, and they run at 100 degrees!

Cheap? As the local camera store was getting out of the 1-Hour business the store manager offered me the mini-lab for free if I would haul it away. I think I'm the last guy who dropped C-41 film off there.
