Up until recently when I connected a card reader to the computer (running Windows 7) Inserted a card with images (Compact Flash or SD card) I used to get a drop down box which asked me what I wanted to do. I used to opt for the 'upload to a folder) and then click on the mouse. The contents of the folder, almost always images in RAW (NEF) were uploaded into the 'My Pictures' file where I could open and work on them.

This happens if I am uploading from either my D700 or D90.

Now what happens is, I get a folder appearing on the top corner of the screen with the card file number and it seems the only option I have is to send it to 'My Documents', there is no option to send it to 'My Pictures'. I can work around this by sending the file again to my external Hard Drive, but it is a bit of a nuisance.

How can I get this drop down box back onto my screen?

Start->My Computer->right mouse click on the removable drive->Properties->AutoPlay tab->select radio button: "Prompt me each time to choose an action"->Apply->OK

I knew someone would come up with an answer. Thanks. I am not in a position to check this at present but I will later on this evening.

Don't forget Windows Help
An example: Start->Help & Support->Search: "autoplay"->"Change how your computer handles multimedia content"

Or just click on the open desktop, hit F1 and the help window pops up. Type in autoplay and go from there.

Pschwart. Sorry it didn't work either way there seems to be a link or next step missing near the end of the process. However I have found a way around it that saves me time anyway. When the folder appears on the screen, I right click on it and in the drop down menue, I change the file name then send the folder to my external hard drive where it will eventually end up anyway. From there I can convert from RAW(NEF) into a Jpg and work on the images as and when I want.

This is basic Windows functionality, but you don't need the autoplay menu. Just open the flash card in MyComputer, select the files/folders you want, and copy them to your hard disk. There are lots of ways to move files around in Windows; do whatever works for you.
