Hello my dear colleagues.
You, what would you do if you were in my place, would you refuse that gift?
Indeed, I got a gift that seems precious to some.
And they seemed undesirable in the eyes of my good friend, Engineer Rudy. who always warns me of the dire consequences of using that ingredient.
- But I was not really trying to have it, but it came to my door as a gift.
Actually I don't know what to do with it.
I had almost settled on two concentrated formulas (Kalogen), which proved a great success among young Egyptian amateur photographers due to its long life and very acceptable results, as well as the old traditional Rodinal formula, which also has some fans.
I want a third formula based on (PPD) so that it is similar to (Kalogen) and (Rodinal)
Metol has about half a kilo, hydroquinone, maybe two kilos, 4 aminophenols, a quarter of a kilo, 10 grams amidol, and 5 grams Dimison S.
catechol very expensive item in Egypt that I cannot buy, as it is only sold in the state chemical company
Glycin Not available on planet Earth as you currently know

I hope to get some advice in this regard. God bless you

I agree with your friend Rudy, if you research its toxicity it causes severe permanent allergy in some cases. It is definitely not advisable to sell or distribute formulae based on it. Using substitute Microdol or Perceptol formulas gives a fine grain result and might better serve that purpose.

Well...
Do I understand from your words that I have to get rid of that amount of PPD and dump it on another planet hostile to us?

You might want to keep PPD aside for now and consider making a Diafine substitute with what you have. A Diafine like two bath developer would be a good addition to your portfolio of developers especially if your customers are desirous of gaining some speed.

Another product that could be of interest to your customers is a monobath. Of course, monobath is a compromise when it comes to image quality and control but many like its convenience of use.

That man did not and will not disclose the formula he uses, he only wants to sell it.
The strange thing is that he says that it is based on (amidol) and not (PPD).

I do not have clients in the true sense of the word. Rather, I have trainees (beginner amateurs), whom I sell (almost) at a price close to the actual cost price.
For me it is not a business to make money at all, considering that making a fair profit is not forbidden.

All in all, thank you very much.
My warm greetings to the wonderful chicken 65.

There's no secret formula. All well-known PPD based developer formulas can be found by doing a Google search. But none of them are concentrated developers like Rodinal. And the ones that are known to work reasonably well on modern films, such as Edwal 12 and MCM-100, need ingredients that you don't have.

Here is the link to the data sheet for Edwal 12, it is a high contrast developer so it will blow out highlights. I use it on occasion, shooting the desert Southwest we have very bright light but much of the time low contrast due to the reflected light. If you can find a scanned copy of Champlin on Fine Grain 1937 he listed 15 or so developers including the infamous Champlin 15, really strange it does work, but on the soft side, poor acutance. I use MCM 100 which used PPD and catechol, I use a mask, gloves and apron, have my fan on, PPD stains just about anything but glass and stainless.

for experienced users who know to take precautions IMO
And why do you think that I am a man with no experience?

You can buy a robot to prepare this formula for you, so that you are completely reassured and safe
There's no secret formula
Yes, you are absolutely right.
So here I want us all to cooperate and exchange ideas in order to create and design a completely new formula, and I was not looking for a secret formula (I already know that there is no such formula for that element)
This forum has many wonderful members who have deep and long experiences, and they have long experiences and great successes, so I hope that we will think together of cooperating with each other to design this formula together,
Some suggestions can be put forward and then the door for discussion is opened.

If you're insistent on using PPD despite the associated risks, try to get hold of Catechol (beware: another toxic chemical) and make MCM-100 which is a reasonably good developer (but must be used with proper care due to the toxicity of its ingredients).

If you can't get Catechol, there's one more PPD-based developer that could be of some interest to you. It uses Vitamin C which should be easy for you to get. However, it's not a widely used developer. So you might not be able to get much help on developing times for your films.

Interesting comparison of Halycon with other developers:

Thank you for that huge dose of frustration.
Thank you for making the world go dark before my eyes
Thank you for everything
