I use my AIS lenses on a variety of Nikon film bodies as well as a D750 d*****l body.

I have now determined that Nikon and the universe only want me to own - at most - 9 AIS lenses ... that's the max of non-CPU lenses the 750 can track.

This seems like a silly limitation.

I have 22 Minolta A mount lens, from 20mm to 400mm, a few 3rd party, but mostly Minolta, not counting a few Sony that I have as well. So, 9 is a good start.

Good news: it's my understanding that one can't mount non-AI lenses on a D750 (for the usual mechanical reasons). So, you can still accumulate as many non-AI lenses as you want.

Looks like those attached with very little or no modification. Which lenses are those?

Left is 50-135 f3.5 Ais. Right a 25-50 f4 Ais. I have a 24 f.2.8 Ai too. Been difficult to get the chips since the war but I've got a few more I wanna do. Autofocus has it's place but I prefer old Nikon manual focus glass. Many lenses don't require anything other than attaching the chip. If the rear baffle diameter is from 1.355" to 1.426" likely it'll be fine. Some lenses just aren't worth it, either value or effort. Programming the chip is easy. I use my D90.

If you just got another d750 problem solved

hahahahaha! very good.

I've got a Z5 that I don't use very much but I definitely enjoy using my old Ais lenses on it. Neat to be able to focus at higher f-stops and see the DOF ( and not a very dim view using the "dof button" ) I don't own enough of them to have found the limit of my Z5 yet

I think you can mount and use them - at least most of them. As I recall, you just have to stop down meter them if you want to use the onboard metering system. But I have none of these pre-AI lenses and thus have no way to confirm this will work.

NO! See post #18 below. D'oh.

I think you can mount some but I had the 2 pre AI lenses 35mm f/2.8 and 50mm f/2 and both will hit the AI coupling and damage it if you insist on mounting. That part of the aperture ring is not needed so if you grind them off then you can mount.

Don't be silly. If you want to use > 9 non-CPU lenses, just edit the non-CPU lens data for any of your 9 favorites to fit the non-CPU lens you want to use. I do that with my D810, which can remember only 4 non-CPU lenses.

He he, that's pretty slick.

But:

- Where are you getting the chips?
- How exactly do you know where to mount them?
- Do they not have to somehow be programmed with the required lens info? How is this done exactly?

1.)Ebay...from Ukraine.
2.)They come with a jig that places them.
3.)You can program them with most digital cameras. It's a bit daunting at first but after a time or two becomes easy.

I like it 'cause it opens up all modern camera's features including matrix metering. Even focus lock if you use that. I don't care for it but it can be handy. I started for my F5 but found it nice for the digital units too.

And check this guy's blog out. That's where I found out about it. Used to be a guy who did it for you online but he's gone. They come with pretty good instructions but translation is muddy in a couple spots.

Yes, I am aware that this can be done. But limiting what was a $2000 body when new to only 9 non-CPU entries is ridiculous.

I hadn't thought of that. Yikes!
