Why is it that I cannot stop looking at, and fantasizing about cameras I don't have?

The only thing that works is feeding the GAS. Buy now before the prices go up.

In my village we have a word for it.. Cuci mata (Indonesian) — litteraly wash your eyes, but it's more about refreshing your eyes, looking at pretty things..
It never hurts!

Ten years ago I settled on 3 systems, Nikon, Canon and Contax/Yashica. Nikon comprises manual and autofocus, as does Canon - with fewer AF lenses - and CY is all manual. I own other 35mm outliers, a basic Minolta set up, Cosina Bessa, Yashica and Russian rangefinders and others which were sold on, including Leica M, Kodak, etc.

I own about 50 35mm compact cameras, from the most basic fixed lens cameras, to sophisticated AF P&S cameras. I haven't been tempted to add to this set up for 8 years. The most used cameras in recent years are Nikkormats, Yashica FR and the Bessa.

If I was buying for the first time today I'd go for a good Nikkormat and/or a Nikon rangefinder camera.

Oh my - the old Nikkormat. One of my first cameras, I used it patrolling the sidelines at Bernards High School. It always performed beautifully - far superior to our team. Also had a Sun 80 -210mm zoom and a Tamron 135mm. Ahhhh yes, the old days . . .

Need has nothing to do with it.

I follow this simple formula: The correct number of cameras to own = current number owned + 1

A word of warning, don't ever get started collecting Barnack Leicas and their clones...

I suddenly got GAS about getting new binoculars. Have no clue where that came from. I've been watching YouTube binocular reviews, reading all about them, trying to come up with excuses for the missus why it's imperative I get one now, etc. Fortunately, the one I wanted, a Nikon Monarch 7 8x42, was back-ordered at B and H. Unfortunately, I:m now convincing myself I need something better that they have available. It's a sickness I tell you, a real malady.

A pair of 7x50 binoculars would be good for seeing the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn Monday at sunset. The last time we could see that was 800 years ago.

Whenever something happens in the stars here in New Jersey, it's cloudy. Maybe I can use a 7x50 in IR?

Ten years ago I settled on 3 systems

Me too: Nikon (35mm), Hasselblad (MF) and Sinar (4x5”).

I still need some lenses to consider my 35mm and MF kits “complete”. I’m more than happy with the LF kit.

Obviously, I will need an ULF kit as soon as all my current ones are considered complete.

GAS is one thing.. But when suddenly it includes cameras that don't feet in a 'large' pocket anymore, that becomes an issue, especially when travelling intercontinental........ My bag has always been borderline, but I just swapped my Pentax 67 for a 4x5 field..

I had that last year and settled for a Vortex Diamondback 8x42. Very good bang for the buck.

I have the diamondback 10x50 and very happy with them. Small amount of slop in the focus system tho.
