I can't get the film to load - Canon T50

I have a Cannon t50 35mm camera that i got from my dad. he doesn't use it anymore, so he gave it to me.

ok, so i took the old roll of film out of it, using the winder. poped the back off by pulling up on the knob, and pulled out the film. then i put the film back in, but the end of it to the orange point, and closed the back. i set the ISO. then i checked the batter with the batter check function. it says that the batteries work, and so does our battery tester. i turn it to the "program" setting, and hold the shutter realease button down.

*this is where the problem starts*

nothing happens. on the website it says that the knob used to wind the film back in should turn, but nothing happens. also, the indicator for the number of exposures left is on "s". it should turn back to 24 or 36, depending on the film i am using. the lens is, as it says on the front, 28-210mm 1:3.8-5.6 macro. promaster spectrum 7.

anyone who would be able to help would be awesome. this is a great hobby, and i don't want to have to quit beacuse i don't have a camera. please help me.

I hapen to have a T50 here, a friend dropped in for minor repairs. (battery cover).

After your question, I picked it up, put it on program and nothing but a tiny 'click' hapened. I gave it a bit of 'percussive maintenance" - ie a bump over the end with the palm of my hand. Then it went OK - no film in it or anything. Actually the lens cap was on, too.

I believe the shutter is controlled by electromagnets and they get sticky.

Whatever, give it a (gentle) try. I find it is a fun camera. Easy to focus - set and forget stuff.

It was also suffering from someone putting his big fat finger thru the shutter so that the top leaf was displaced from its channel and unable to retract below the bottom edge (top of the frame, right way up) of the image. Gentle work with tweezers replaced it and all is functioning well, now.

ok, i have a little update, not sure if it's good or not.

first of all, on the bottom of the camera, where the film would roll the second time \/

that part, well under it there is a silver pin. when i push it in, the little wheel with the knots on it will spin. if it is pulled out, they will not spin.

second, when i try to load the film, the winder on the left side (if looking from back) will not move.

i did the percussion thing, and gave it a decent tapping. nothing happened.

if anyone has any idea of know where i would be able to send it to get it fixed i would be very greatful.

Doesn't sound good. The pin under the sprocket wheel (the thing with the teeth) is suposed to freewheel the sprockets when you want to rewind back into the cassette. It pops out again when you fire the camera the first time with the next film. Otherwise the film wouln't advance!

That part is acting normally. The rewind crank, however, should turn easily at any time and if it's so stiff, one can only wonder what condition the rest of the mechanism under the top plate is in?

Want to spend $$ on a repairman or just go straight to another camera that works? Canon FDs aren't expensive - look it ebay.

Hi, I have a similar problem with my T-50. I, too, got my camera from my dad. It worked fine for 7 rolls, untill the batteries ran down. I bought new batteries, loaded new film, and when I pushed the button I got the same sound as Murray Kelly discribed, just a slight click sound. the only thing that seem out of place is the silver rewind pin on the bottom has not released. ussually it release as soon as I load a new film strip in. Does my camera just need a thump too? As mentioned above above, I've looked on ebay, and the bodies are cheap. so If I have to do anything other than work that I can do myself I will just buy a new one. Thanks for reading.
