I am looking for a mint Minolta XD-11. I need it for my dad's birthday. He use to have one in the 70s and it got stolen in Italy 5 or 6 years ago. He has not stopped talking about how great that camera was.
He is a little ocd, so he likes his things mint. He is a freak about taking care of his things.
Please let me know place that could get one, or if someone wants to sell.
I checked Cameta, no luck. They were a little rough. Tried Keh, the same. So please help.
Thanks in advance.

Good luck finding anything used that is truly mint! Maybe you can find a NOS one somewhere. That'd be your best bet for truly mint. Other than that, keep your eyes peeled on E-Bay, and make sure to ask lots of questions and get lots of good pix. But don't hold on for one that is truly mint. Cameras just don't stay that way for much longer than a day or so.

N.O.S. - new old stock

It is something no longer made that has never been sold to a customer. It is just like it would have been buying it brand new whenever it was on the market. If the item came in a box, or shrink wrapped, all of that is still intact.

I sent you a PM regarding one I saw on CL that looks interesting.

Of course a KEH rating of EX should be very good and of course the money back guarantee makes it an easy decision.

Probably not, they move a lot of inventory and even 15 years ago wouldn't pick through cameras finding a particular one, they are graded, bagged and shelved. I would just order an EX+ and be happy.

The camera repair link is outdated, I talked to them already. Unfortunately I am looking for the chrome version. Than you so much for all the help. Keep it coming...

I just picked up an XD-5 and XD-11 from a guy on craigslist since my black body XD-11 died.

Both were excellent and came with Minolta lenses. I figured that they were going to be vivitar, kalimar, etc, but got lucky.

I can not recommend KEH for anything. You may get a cosmetically EX camera from them, but they do NOT check them out mechanically. And their listing are often wrong - would your dad appreciate an engraved camera? Oh, and if they screw up and send you the wrong or mislabeled thing, they still won't refund your shipping fee. They're a totally high volume low class outfit.

I believe eBay will be your best bet. How far away is you dad's birthday? If you have a few months, give eBay the chance to surprise you. If you need it soon, well, you'll simply need fortune to smile on you. You might also post this same message on photo.net in their Sony Minolta forum, someone there might have one they're willing to part with. Trully mint cameras are not cheap. I'd expect to pay over $300 for a mint, really mint, XD-11.

On the other hand, a really nice one can often be had for a hundred bucks or less.

Wolfeye, do you have one? Engraved? Depence? Where is it engraved? And what condition?
Thanks

I do have an XD-11, in average shape, not engraved. They are relatively good cameras. A bit tougher, in general, than the later X-700, but they don't have TTL Flash and can't use the MD-1 motor drive. Not sure what you mean by depence.

I agree that keh is a crapshoot these days but you can always return it at your expense.
One will turn up on the bay but it may take awhile depending on how many of these were originally produced.

You don't get shipping refunded on ebay either.

KEH might have problems but I rather deal with pros who at least know the correct terminology for the camera parts and when you buy a camera from them they don't tell you on Thursday after you won the camera that they will ship on monday after they get done using it over the weekend.

You are wrong

I had a bad transaction on eBay. Seller mislead, stopped communicating when I complained about the inaccurate listing. I reported the transaction to eBay. They sent me a prepaid shipping label back to the seller and refunded my purchase 100% including shipping.

KEH's shipping system is laughable. The last item I bought from them was purchased on Friday. On Monday they hadn't shipped and I asked them to cancel the order. They ignored that request and shipped on Wednesday, and on top of that they shipped the wrong item.

Others have had good luck with keh. I have not, multiple times, so I not only avoid them myself I tell people exactly what they can expect when things are not right. My basic feeling about doing something wrong is that you go out of your way to make the customer happy or you lose that customer. Keh makes so many mistakes that if they did that they'd go out of business, on shipping losses alone.

If you use keh pay the extra 2 bux for 2nd day Fedex (at least that is how much extra a 135 or lens is to me in DC)
Not overnight but 2nd day.
If you order before 2:00pm it will usually ship that day.

Regular ground you can be waiting a week for delivery (3 days before it ever leaves their warehouse usually)

With most XD-11 cameras, you mostly likely will need to replace the foam seals and with many of the models you will need to replace the body covering.

The body covering on many XD-11s shrinks over time. It's easiest just to buy another covering than to try to stretch the original back into shape. I don't know if that's possible, as I haven't tried.

The small flange on the takeup spool also seems to be a weak spot.

Lovely cameras. Here's my XD-11, which I re-covered using material from Aki-Asahi.

Not mint, but in very nice condition.

You did a nice job. That is one pretty camera. I have to recover my XD-11 some day - have the kit from cameraleather.com sitting on the shelf but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I've been selling on ebay for 8 years and if someone wants a refund they have to return the item on their dime,I'm not required to refund shipping charges. Those are the rules unless they changed them recently.I had power seller status for 2 years and not a single issue so I don't really know about refunds.
Some sellers in order to avoid neg feedback will offer a full refund and issue a call tag as part of the bargaining with the mediator or to settle the matter quickly.
It doesn't matter to the seller, they will relist the item and often if gets sold for more than the first time.:D

Its disappointing hearing about problems with KEH, I'll have to keep an eye on them.
