I am Still Curious About Fuji Supergloss

A few days ago someone posted a post comparing Fuji Supergloss to Ilfrachrome. I am still curious as to any comparison to Kodak Duraclear. Particularly if anyone ever compared the complexity of Duraclear prints to Ilfrchrome or fiji Supergloss. Also, has anyone been able to get metallic tones from the Duraclear'' Is Fuji Supergloss still available?

Bill, I've printed a bit on Duratrans, which I believe is very close to Duraclear (I think one base is transparent, and one is translucent). And I've printed a LOT on Cibachrome/Ilfochrome. IMO there is NO comparison. Kodak does have a newer print material, KODAK PROFESSIONAL ENDURA Premier Metallic Paper, which sounds like it might have some of the old Ciba look, but this is only for digital output. Don't know anything about Fuji materials, I've moved on to gum bichromate for color printing.

Supergloss has an opaque white backing, not transparent. It isn't for backlit panels. Kodak does not have a product resembling either Ciba or Supergloss print material, and never did that I am aware of. Kodak did offer Duratrans. Metallic is something quite different, more for that dept store window display look, I guess. I have no interest in it, and it's rather pathetic if you're looking for a replacement for Ciba. But Fuji Supergloss is a worthy replacement and easy to print if you have a decent colorhead and normal RA4 process control. The only significant logistical problem is that you can buy it only in big rolls, so have to cut it down to sheet sizes yourself. The clear-based product which Fuji offers for backlit use is called Fujitrans, not Fujiflex Supergloss.

Supergloss is not listed in Europe, but a similar product of different designation (Fujiflex).

Same thing, officially termed both Fujiflex and Supergloss. But there was an emulsion change about three years ago, designated only by the batch numbers. Not a good idea to buy old paper anyway, though this seems to have a reasonably good shelf life.

So, after reading all of this, I conclude that there currently is nothing like Cibachrome that is clear and can be exposed and processed by "Conventional" processes.?
This is a Crying Shame!

Thank you very much. In checking out Agfa Avitone, I see several specific types that have been discontinued and several more that are orphochromatic. I there a current panchromatic version?

Looks like I am too eager to ask questions, IT looks like Avitone CP70 is a Pan film that can be developed in RA4. I will check its availability tomorrow. Meanwhile, any info you have will be greatly appreciated. I shall send you a Happy Face!

Ilford too had a clear base RA-4 material (Ilfoclear). As they went under not that long ago, you might still find stock of it.
