I am getting tired of the posts trying to make people feel guilty because they could not afford, had schedualing conflicts or have family to consider before photography, I think plenty of answers have been provided over the last week, that should allow anyone that wishes to organaize and event of this nature, I am sure 2007 will be bigger and better, but I really don't think much is being accomplished anymore, there were those who attended and had a great time, there were those who wanted to attend and wished they could of, then there are those who didn't attend and don't have any desire to attend.

Would it be possible to leave it at that and not continue to drive this subject into the ground?

What???? Did I miss something? I'll have to go back over this, but I certainly don't remember anyone trying to make another feel guilty about not going.

I really don't understand where your anger is coming from. Do you think it is possible for you to simply not read the thread and let people go about their business?

Bill,

Please tell WHAT anger, I am not angry about anything, I simply stated my opinion, don't tell me NOT to read a thread, this is not your right.

I am not angry about anything at all, if I was, you would know it, the conference has been driven into the ground, there are many of us, that wanted to attend, and did not see the possible way to do it, but the continually asking why, is getting old. As a paying sponsor of this website, I will guarantee you this, I will read which ever thread I wish to.

As a business person, I'm surprised at your response.

Whenever we do anything we try to track the results, question the client, think over our strategy etc.

This conference took an incredible amount of work for some people and they probably want to try to track what went right, what went wrong, why some came and why others didn't, so that in the future they can adjust their plans.

Make sense to me.

When one considers that there are 12000 members and 100 went to the conference, I guess that there is room for evaluation.

Michael,

I agree 100%, you track, you evaluate and you plan to make things better, that is good business sense, that is the only way we grow, but when I see messages that say....

Get off you butt, your making excuses and it is all priorities, then I have a tendancy to wonder what is really going on here...

As I stated in another thread, I feel that I have the right to express my opinion, even if it is off base from others, I did, I will continue to do so..

That is not the way to build a loyal following in the future...there are very good strong reasons that some did not attend, why does it keep being questioned? That is where my question is...many ideas have been presented since the conference has finished and for the most part ALL have been dismissed and said they wouldn't work, Anything can work, if you want it to strong enough...

And if I do????

What are you going to do about it?

Your message posted in a public forum didn't look to friendly to me as well, I expressed my opinion and you didn't like it.

You have a problem....and if I PM you again, what are you going to do about it?

so have fun, we can keep this going on all day, or you could log off!

Boys, boys, boys.... you'll note that said 'boys' and not 'gentlemen,' or even simply 'men'. What is the big deal here?

Dave didn't go; he had his reasons; fine. John & the others are looking for input, and that's, as Michael says, good business practice.

I guess in the greater scheme of things, this is more than a wee bit childish. "Don't PM me!" "What if I do?" Geesh! Might wanna take a time out here. Next thing we'll be reading is "I know you are, but what am I?"
Oi!

Dave,
I am honestly trying my best to figure out how to produce the best conference possible. To do this I need to understand what went right/wrong for those that attended and what kept others away. The idea is to fill in the gaps. It may be annoying, but it wasn't done to illicit a feeling of guilt from those who didn't go.

As a forewarning, I will be posting the images from the conference shows shortly. These include the Master Show (Mostly conference Instructors), The Apug Juried Show and Canada's Silver entries. We will probably have a sale and auction of the prints as well.

I also plan on posting my feedback results so everyone can have another go at the conference layout. At the end of the day this conference should be for and about apugers so I'm giving apugers everychance to mold it into what they want.

FWIW I have asked for feed back twice, once in an email (not on APUG) and once on line in a thread that you seemed to have taken the wrong way. In addition to that I have considered every suggestion and I will not be the judge of what is dismissed and what is kept.

Geez, here we go again with Satinsnow. Dave, you must someday realize it's futile to try and tell people what NOT to talk about on a public forum and only results in animosity. Have you noticed that it seems to follow you around? Nobody is FORCING you to read or not read anything, so give everyone else the same courtesy.

Mr Callow, carry on! You're doing a fine job and deserve a lot of credit along with everyone else that put so much time and effort into the conference. I didn't attend partially due to $$ but mostly due to too many other committments on my time. It's been fun to see the pics and read about the feedback.

This cleared it up for me, all I needed was to hear that 100 friends went to their friends workshops. It sounds like a club not a conference, maybe that's the problem with the whole thing.

I have to agree with Dave, every time I logged on this week it was in my face, why didn't you come . . . . I started to think about it and never gave an answer to it because the more I thought about it the more annoyed I got.

The threads this week look a little thread worn too.

Kerik,

Are you trying to tell me that I have no right to my opinion? if so please explain to me, why my opinion is less valid than anyone elses?

I have enjoyed the pictures as well, I admire the organizers of this event.

I am not being forced to read anything, but I will be damned if I will put up with being told NOT to read something either. My suggestion to the person who had a problem with me was to put me on their ignore list, but I never tryed to tell them what NOT to read, and I don't expect to be told what I can read or what I can post.

Curt,
I'm confused which threads? How is it a bad thing that some people had fun at an event built for them? How is it a bad thing that they talked about it? How is it a bad thing that we are trying to make it better? What would you prefer we discuss?

To be perfectly frank I think Dave is coming from left field if not the exit ramp to the ball park. I'm obviously all wet here fill me in.

John,

I am not the only one that took your comments last night about getting off or our butts in a derogitory manner, I am not the only one that has made suggestions to increase attendence..so I don't think I am out of left field, but am voicing real concerns, which each one of us has the right to do...I have to agree with Curt, this seems to be like it is becomming more of a club, than a cause..

I suspect that Dave and perhaps some of the rest of us, particularly those that did not attend, have just found that they have heard enough about the conference (at least for now). However, whether we have or not, we as members and subscribers of APUG certainly have the choice in reading and participating in the discussions.

Well, I for one have not heard enough about the Conference, there have not been enough anecdotes posted, neither have there been enough conference snapshots posted.

The club is apug dave. Any suggestions made are being logged. Sorry you didn't find the get off your butt joke funny it was a rewording of Aggie’s post -- who oddly (or not) also took offence.

sorry about the humor malfunction, but this isn't about the posts. If redundancy was this unnerving to you, your nerves would have burned out from exposure to APUG long ago.

Andy I have some good stories to tell, but I'm fearful of retribution.

What’s the real problem?

John,

Don't worry about the joke. They can't all be gems, and certainly humor is an art in itself, and like photos, sometimes they work and strike people in the way intended, and sometimes they don't.

Dave

I was going to ignore this thread, but your quote, Dave, both resonated and grated on me. There've been times when I felt APUG as a whole had a "clubby" feel to it, centered around those who go to the chatroom at night, or whatever. I've never been big on that kind of thing (always got bad grades on the "gets along with others" box) and that made me wonder what the conference would be like. But there really was none of that, as it turned out. Even someone like me couldn't help but be drawn in by the overall inclusive atmosphere that dominated the whole conference -- never mind the specific efforts made by John, Eric, and bunch of others to make sure social stragglers weren't allowed to straggle in spite of their best efforts.

I think the organizers did that then, and even now and are attempting a thorough review, because they care about photography, care about people, and want the next conference to be a success -- no matter where it's held, or by whom. There's been a genuineness to their efforts throughout this whole thing which this thread doesn't do justice to. Sorry if I make an enemy for life for saying it, but that seems like shabby repayment.

Of course not. If you actually read my post, it says that (in MY opinion) it's futile to try and control what is discussed in a public forum and it just pisses people off, which seems to be a sport for you. As much as it is your right to state your opinion, it is other people's right to discuss whatever the hell they want for as long as they want to! Have you noticed that these "hey, would you guys stop talking about this topic" threads never end amicably and generate needless ill-will?!?!? Or perhaps that is their purpose.

Michael,

I don't make enemies for life, I don't feel anyone is my enemy, now of course others may feel they are my enemy...

I appriciate everything that the organizers of this event did, and don't have any problem with them at all, I am expressing my opinion and will stick to my opinion, but again, conversations and making enemies are two different things and there is no one on this website, I would not be happy to meet and shake hands, I just happen to feel a bit differently about this particular situation.
