How many is like five? Is it actually five?

Good idea though.

Steve.

"Like" seems to be one of those words that has suddenly become hip to use, in the same vein as "actually," when the need to differentiate a statement from an incorrect one is unnecessary, or beginning a sentence with "So," for no apparent reason whatsoever.

I just heard the news anchor on Good Morning America say, "I was, like, ...

If people who make a living expressing themselves verbally use the word this way, I guess I should not be picking on you. I apologize. And for participating in diluting the admirable reason for your thread.

you go girl.

It's nice to give away a camera. Very nice of you. And it's a great camera. But isn't it kind of, um, uncalled for to use "girl" in a pejorative sense? Since I've never met anyone named Dan who is female, I have to think you meant to put him down with that. Why do you think that's okay? Either to put him down, or to put down everyone of the female gender?

As a "girl" myself, as the mother of two girls (and one boy), as the daughter, sister and friend of countless women I admire and respect, I think that's pretty uncool. And certainly uncalled for.

Photography can be a pretty sexist area, so why add to it?

I really like this idea. Good move.

Ugh. I have an F2 which needs some work as the top plate is dented since it looks like the camera was dropped at some point. I haven't put time into working on it yet so trying to pick up an F3 seems inappropriate. I'm still trying to find the right Nikon body for me as I have a lot of Nikon lenses (originally used with an SLR) which aren't getting as much use as they deserve. Maybe I'll get the F2 sorted out some time.

Enter the contest - it's easy.

Laura,

You and I might not get along. You see that what was called "a joke" - hyperbole. Not intended to offend Dan or any particular gender. In fact it was mostly making fun of myself.

Here is the history - Dan called me on my use of the phrase "like 5 F3's". The term like in this phrase is part of a modern young (usually not too thoughtful) demographic - which he the explained in a lot of academic detail. Hence my response "you go girl" probably should have been spelled "gurl" or something to simulate my belonging to that particular demographic, which obviously I don't. You see it's used everywhere as an extreme enthusiastic response to people rising up against some authority figure or like context.

Now that I have fully explained the context, on to you and I not getting along. Mostly my fault as I try to stay as far as possible from people that try really hard to find some sort of personal affront to the most harmless and simple things. Actually I am personally "offended" that you would accuse me of such atrocities as having something against Dan or women using such a ridiculous set of "evidence".

I do believe my personal offense completely trumps yours as your attack was most definitely directed at me personally and it's clearly obvious that my use of "you go girl" was not actually an attack directed at anyone.

Hope that clears things up.

Good morning. I don't know if there's any log of those who have thrown a name into the hat, but if so please remove mine. I don't want to change my Facebook settings so everyone can see more into my account, neither do I want to register for Twitter. Best wishes to you, and to all.

This was my first post on your entry page. Then I went in and tried to figure out how to let you see the posting.
OH WELL, at least I've tried....

"Some times the use of digital is convenient. But it still is not just the same, to hold a solid camera and know that what you saw is what you captured on film. Too much of the digital “pictures” are not composed in the camera/field but created in the computer.

Now to figure out what this tweeter stuff means."
