Modern tripods and cameras use 1/4 inch Whitworth tripod threads, pre-WWII quite a few used 3/8. inch Whitworth, a few Large Format cameras used both after WWII.
Tripods are being marketed for one use, so the Slik Sprint Pro II I bought was marketed as for use with a DSLR or Video camera and the weight spec was more than my 5x4 lf camera. So sold as a digital camera tripod despite being far more versatile.
I guess the reverse is my 1900 or earlier tripod that came with a very early Gandolfi camera suitable to use with a DSLR, it is
