Hi, I just got back into bulk loading. I used to do Kodak with the cool tin cans. I went with Ilford this time but have an issue. When I opened the box (with the light on ) assuming there was another light tight layer, there was only an unsealed black bag between the film and LIGHT! Is that normal??? I need to know before I throw away any more money.

Thanks,
Echard

You have already posted an active thread of same content in another Apug-forum.
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

As your first one is located in a wrong forum, better ask a moderator to move it, than to do a second posting in an appropriate forum.

Yeap, here: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Yes, it is normal.
Someone else a week ago had the same "issue": (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Now, you know how Ilford / Kentmere bulk film comes: sealed box with a black bag inside.
The Ilford boxes do have a warning on the side.
If you like cans, buy Foma films.
But, it is the same: inside can the black bag isn't sealed as it doesn't need to be. The can has a tape around and a warning.

Why would you open a film box with the light on?

Those ilford black bags are NOT light tight. They are light resistant.

You should be ok but might see some edge darkness in the sprockets depending on how long you left the bag in the light.

When you open a metal can, is there a second metal can inside? No, so why would there be another container inside the ilford box?

Hope the film is ok.

Because one might think of a can hiding inside that cardboard box.

Keep in mind that within those type-136 cardboard boxes also a plastic cannister hides.
When I first saw those new cardboard boxes with bulk-film, I expected the old can inside it.
