Hi.

I have just started to produce digital negatives for cyanotype printing with the HP Photosmart D7160 printer. The main reason that I'm using it is that a family member lent it to me and decided they didn't want it back. To be honest so far I have just been adjusting my negatives in photoshop and printing what I think will get good results. I've made some really nice prints so far, and I'm certain that once I get the chemistry end of things right they'll be even better.

I was just wondering if this printer is good enough to get good quality negs, or if I'm just fooling myself because I have actually managed to print anything at all. I've seen a lot of posts around here asking for people's printer information so that forum members can advise them as to whether they need an upgrade.

A couple more questions. I have experimented with orange toned/b&w negatives and the only difference I can see is that the orange negs seem to let less light through and take slightly longer to develop in the sun. I can get the same results and save on ink by just leaving the b&w out for less time. This is my experience so far, so can anyone tell me what the advantage to a coloured negative might be?

And finally, if I do need to upgrade to get the most out of my printing, what would be a good printer to choose? I might as well get A3 if I have to get a new one at all, and would probably have 200-300 to spend.
