Hello,
I just purchased a Howtec d4000, and I am going to pick it up the day after tomorrow. Are there any things I should look out for? I couldn't find much about the scanner online. Does anyone have a digital manual, they would be willing to share? Do you guys have general information about the scanner? Is it even worth setting up? I shoot 4x5, 35 and 120 Negatives. Thanks and all the best!
I just picked up my d4000, it seems to work fine, but I'll have to do some digging.
It came with silverfast 6.6. I am not too keen on paying huge money for the atztek software. Silverfast will do fine. I also got the manual. I will scan and upload it if anyone is interested. I downloaded all the documents from the high-res scan group from groups.io. Very thankful for that. Are there some standard settings to use with silverfast and these machines? I like to hand invert in photoshop from positives. (I use manly negative film)
When I contacted Aztek last year (2024) about purchasing a second license for DPL 8.1 to run a second Howtek scanner, they mentioned that Trident was still an option (it was also considerably less expensive than DPL). Ultimately, I didn't go down the Trident route because I'm familiar with DPL, so I'm not sure if they send you a link to download the Trident software plus a physical dongle, or if the dongle can be handled with a digital "key". In either case, just send them an email telling what scanner you have and that you're interested in purchasing a license for Trident. They're very easy to work with.
