A few years ago the son of one of my friends asked his dad "was everything black and white in the olden days?".

It is hard to imagine times long before our own earliest memories because usually all genuine photos and moving images of such times are imperfect in some way....even 1980s video is identifiable as inferior to today's 4K or even 1080i.
