how to stop canon pro 100 from self cleaning

my brother printer empties most of its ink every time i plug it in. my new pro 100 is in my bed room, and i don't want it on all night, so can i set it to let me manual clean it every week or so, rather than doing a complete clean every time i want to print a 6x4.
any advice would be appreciated.
