Following the many questions we get about this topic, we decided to upload a video that shows how to remove the cog from your Jobo lid.
The cog (#1505) was designed to be a permanent addition to the lid, but as seen in this video, can easily be removed, and replaced (if damaged), or for converting the lid for use as in inversion lid (red membrane cap #03046 will be needed).

It works, but the “decisive blow” is important. I tried one without that and knocked a small chip out of the lid itself.

But why?

The only reason I can think of is exchanging the cog between lids. But for regular use would one do so, and risk a harm in the long run?
Thus remains removing for further use the cog from a faulty lid.

Or am I overlooking something? The cog itself having worn out?

I have had to do that when purchasing a used lid. I do not have a lift and so use the tanks without cogs.
