How to open/repair Welta Penti?

1. Place focus at infinity
2. Carefully unscrew the three grub screws (1mm flat screwdriver) at the periphery of the focus ring. Enough for the screws to protrude slightly from the focus ring, but not too much or they will fall out and you want to avoid that
   
3. Lift the focus ring; make a mark (scratch) on the black ring at the 12'oclock position
4. You can now see, at the bottom of the cylindrical recess that was hidden by the focus ring, a flat ring, black anodized, with four radial slots at 90°. You need to un-screw that. I use a pair of medium-sized tweezers, bought as a cheap tool, and filed the tips until they were narrow enough for the job. There are certainly other ways, the best one being a custom tool machined from a piece of steel tube with two (or four) small teeth protruding.
   
5. After unscrewing the black ring, the rest of the front assembly can be removed, and after that, the front plate, revealing the shutter mechanism.

Be prepared to at least check the infinity focus after re-assembly. It would be a pity to take un-sharp pictures .That camera is surprisingly capable.
