So, I'd like to try it, but B&H and others who carry it can't ship it. Do I have to drive to a major city or can my local photo store get it - and if THEY can get it, why can't I? I know, regulations, etc... grrr.

You can purchase it from Photographers Formulary, or Bostick and Sullivan. I have had no problem getting it shipped.

When I first tried Pyrocat, I ordered the 50L size from the formulary. Once I tried it and liked it, I ordered the bulk chemicals to mix my own. This was so I could mix it in Glycol. Now that the Formulary sells it premixed in Glycol, I'll have to rethink mixing my own once the dry chemicals run out.

While this stuff is great to use, some of the chemicals can be really nasty if not properly handled. Just my 2 Cents.

On that subject, I wonder why catechol is considered more hazardous than hydroquinone. The difference between them is in the location of one OH. Both have the same empirical formula. Both can work in the Pyrocat formulas, but give different stain colors.
