I'm attracted to the ease of use of diafine with different types of films.

It also seems like it would work well for stand development, I could just put a batch of different films into a tall developing tank and not have to worry about different ISO speeds etc.

Is this something I can mail order? or is it classified as a dangerous chemical?

Daniel.

Thanks! I see there somebody selling some at auction. Instead I've tried adorama, and they seem to have taken the order. Ill post back on this thread if it arrives fine.

Any good links on stand development with Diafine?

Daniel.

I don't know that stand development really makes sense with diafine. Diafine is designed to work to exhaustion, you first use part A for three minutes or so and then part B for another three minutes. Basically, Part B works to the exhaustion of the part A that has soaked in to the film, so there is no adjustment of contrast by changing developing time. I don't think that there is any reason to stand develop, and agitation and time are not issues, you just do at least three minutes in each bath.

While I'm not an expert re: Diafine, I've used a fair amount. I've read where agitation is critical, especially the B bath.

I'm also not sure whether you want to use it as a standard dev. Diafine is a wonderful dev and you can easily process different types of films in the same tank, but Diafine is designed to give a one-stop push, or more. Do you want to push all the films you shoot?

There is lots of info on this forum about Diafine. A search will give you all the info you'll need.

Vanbar in Melbourne used to stock it. It sold very slowly (maybe a can every couple of years). Try phoning them- there might be some at the back of the storeroom.
