Hi All
I want to purchase a 150mm sironar s by Rodenstock and have found one made for Sinar. The salesmen does not know the age of the lens. So, I asked him for the serial and he obliged my request(11147038). I am trying to find out if this lens is made out of the same type of glass (E.D.)as their current sironar s line. Any help is appreciated. thanks

No idea about the age, but it should be labeled as a Sinar Sinaron SE 150mm lens. The optics and mechanics are identical--only the branding is different. I have the Rodenstock labeled one and it's an excellent lens. The Sinaron S is a rebranded Sironar N lens--also excellent, but it should be much less expensive than the Sironar S version. Interestingly, you can get a Caltar II-N MC 150mm lens for probably half the price of the Sinar Sinaron S 150mm and they're the *same* 150mm Apo Sironar N lens.

Welcome to Apug!
As you even got the serial number, why do you not just phone them in Germany?
The company is now called Linos.

They are quite helpful, once even described to me on the phone how to disassemble a certain Rodagon to get some dust out...

Everyone, thanks for responding with good info. David, previously I could not bring that page up at Kerry Thalmann's site. Thanks for the link, that is what i was looking for.
The company listed the lens as a 150mm Apo Sironar-S and right below that another lens as an 150mm Apo Sironar-N. That's pretty tricky, because I understand the Rodenstock Apo S to be a wee bit sharper than the Apo N. The ad kind of led me to think this was a Rodenstock Apo Sironar-S and now I find out it is a relabled Apo-N. Thank you Barry and I appreciate the welcome.

The S has a red circle around the lens.

The N has a white circle around the lens.

I am pretty sure this applies to the Rodenstocks and the Sinars.

I think you need to cut it in half and count the rings ... or something

Thanks again David. After pressing with more questions the sales dude informed me that he was just looking at it on a computer screen. I confirmed that I was too and really felt a good bond. Now if we could just talk with a person who new anything in regards to this lens ,we(the sales dude and I) would be in good shape. Hence, I have decided to pass on this deal.
I will try to reciprocate the help that was received from forum.
P.S. However, with my limited experience with L.F. the balance of benefit will be out of wack for a while!
