How to design an emulsion

I have had queries about how we model emulsions and how we can make a specific type of grain.

Well, here is an example of a model of a kettle of NaBr at .89 g/l or 0.00865 m/l.



Using the chart below, I can "design" the crystal shape in any double run emulsion.




The model above gives us all necessary information about pAg, pKsp and etc for those who need to know, but if you don't then you use the bottom chart and move to the 1st example to select your starting conditions.

Just an FYI to help experimenters get started with double run.

Thanks for the info P.E. Is that program proprietary to Kodak? I wonder of i could Maske something like that.
Some of the materials I make at Dow chemical, namely OXO alcohols abs acetates, have use in emulsion and film production. I cannot remember which ones ottomh, but i can look then up if you might like to know.

Making a usable emulsion and coating it is something i long to do. The work ups, the process and process control, testing and validation is fascinating. My professional life as a process operator incorporate all of these. I look at my analytical lab and often wonder what i could do.

Maybe one day, should the opportunity ever present itself. Btw. I read a few of your patents, interesting stuff! Thanks door helping to share the knowledge to keep true photography alive.

Anyone can write this sort of program. It uses some basic equations such as the Debye Huckle equation. Look up comments here in other posts on this and see the work in my book and other posts here.
