How to carry filters

I'm starting to build a collection of filters. (used mostly for 35mm cameras)

They include filters in 77mm diameters, adapter rings to fit that with various lenses, Cokin filters (square ones), brackets, and adapters for that.

Does anyone have suggestions as to how to keep/carry/use them securely, conveniently, and together? Right now, I have everything in factory cases but they are not the most convenient.

Tiffen (and I suppose other filter manufacturers) makes a soft wallet type case for filters. Mine holds about six 77mm filters. They slip into pockets made in the interior, and then the wallet folds into thirds and secures with Velcro. Very convenient.

If you don't mind being slow, just stack 'em and keep them in a box.

I screw them together , placing a special cap on either end for protection.

Hello Mr. Kamiya,

Last year I bought a medium sized insulated drink dispenser,
cut out a few foam disc for padding. Screwed my 82mm filters together,
I used some chintzy UV filters on the ends of the stack for protection.
I was very happy with that unit, so I got a smaller one for the 67's, and 72's
Fits nicely in a camera bag, I couldn't deal with all the filter cases rattling around
or falling out whenever I was trying to find something.

Just my personal opinion, but I have tried both stacks and wallets and prefer the wallet arrangement. Too often, when stacked, the one I wanted was in the middle and getting them apart to reach 'that' one was a pain and time consuming.

I've had to rearrange the stack a few times so that the ones I use most
often are located to outside, and the Red, and FLD are at the center.
Also used a Silver Sharpie to help make identification easier.

Red's in the center?! Besides a skylight (always) to protect the element, red is about the only filter I use, although I've strayed into orange and dark yellow.

I used a cheap CD carry case for a while. Worked well, until one the kids barfed on it and I pitched it, after i fished the filters out.

I prefer to use the plastic cases they come in.

Also Lowepro, likewise a capacity of six and takes 77mm filters fine. The random access is much more useful than stacking.

I usually don't shoot with filters unless it's a polarizer, warming, cooling or something that actually makes an effect.

All my UV's and Haze filters are all scratched to hell, stuff spilled on them and they stay on my Nikkor glass until I use them.

The only time when I shoot with a UV/haze on the lens is on my Canon EOS system with L lenses and I'm in a harsh environment, i.e. hanging off the back of a truck shooting, shooting into high wind, any kind of hostile environment that can damage my lens.

All else stays in the cases the filters came in and I keep them all in a separate pouch in my bag.
