Sorry for asking what is, I am sure, a simple question but I'm not really sure what keywords to use to search because I don't really know the lingo....

I am interested in the possibility of mounting images with a card border that has my name beneath the image, similar to this example by Ansel Adams :

What is this mounting called and how does one go about having it done?

Thanks a lot

Ted

I'm not quite sure what you want to achieve as the example is a poster. However, Adams dry-mounted his prints with an open area between the edge of the print and the interior edge of the window mat. That is usually called "float" mounting. At the AIPAD show, I even saw some prints that were mounted that way but with corners rather than dry-mount tissue.

If you search this site for "dry mounting" you'll likely find some lengthy discussions of various techniques.

Find someone with a letterpress and work something out -- or do it yourself.

I remember seeing prints by Wanda Hammerbeck with the use of a letterpress. But I would be careful -- it can appear a bit conceited to have one's name thrust out so.
