How much do you shoot a year? LF & ULF

Hi all,

Just curious what people's consumption of large film is like. I'm new to 810, but have gone through about 120 sheets in 6 months. How much film do you go through in a year?

WOW, that's a bunch compared to me. I think the most I've done in one year is 80-something sheets. This year has been a bad one for new images, and its down to less than 30.

Depends upon the year. Frankly, I don't count.

You're shooting 20 sheets per month. Good for you.

There are days when I shoot nothing; and then there are days I can shoot 20 sheets or more. Depends on my inspiration.

I think the better question is how often are we inspired to shoot in 6 months?

while i have an 8x10 and 11x14 camera
i mostly shoot 4x5, 5x7 and roll film.
i shoot a few hundred sheets a year of 4x5 easy,
maybe 100 sheets of 5x7 ...
sheets of paper in the bigger --- -- film is expensive for those beasts,
and i know they have to eat alot

4x5 only...maybe 40-60 sheets (readyloads) a year. Shoot much more roll film.

I'm actually doing closer to 30-35, depending on the month. The first couple of months were spent getting used to the gear and eliminating technical problems. Now that that's done, I'm letting her rip! Getting tray processing down was a big step for me, especially when coming back w 12-14 seets that I just have to see printed!

About 50 5x7 and 4x5 sheets this past year. I haven't had that many opportunities to get out and expose film, but plan on being more active in the new year.

I shoot about 1000 sheets of 4x5 Ektachrome annually (for my photography business), and I shoot about 2000-2500 sheets of b/w in LF and ULF annually for my personal projects. (4x5, 5x7, 8x10, 11x14 combined) heavily tilted towards 5x7 at the moment. I shot 50 sheets last tuesday on one outing of 5x7.

For 4x5 I only use readyloads, TMX100, about 70 - 100 sheets per year.

I used about 100 sheets of 8x10 last year... kinda disappointing when you think about it.
My goal for 08 is 300 shots. I only expect to get about half a dozen really good shots in a year but a I hope the 6 are better next year because of the time in the field.
My goal for roll film is 52 rolls. Mostly portraits.

Unless on some long photography trip (like used to happen before the full time job, house, child, etc.) a 100 sheet box will last a year.

180 sheets of 4x5 Acros. On an exceptional day, I've gone through 18 sheets. Lots of hiking in between, mind you.

I usually use 100 sheets of 8x10 Ilford FP4-HP5, but at the moment I've just use 50 sheets in two weeks, so I hope to use more that 200 sheets of 8x10 and 80-100 of 8x20 the next years..... Lots of work has to do!!!!!!

Just finished filing my 2007 LF & ULF negatives, proofs, etc. Total 8x10 for 2007 (so far) = 198 sheets. 7x17 = 48 sheets, 4x5 = 20 sheets and 5x7 = 12 sheets. Not too bad, but I hope to expose at least 50% more in 2008. I think Richard Ritter's new Lightweight 4x5/5x7/8x10 will give me more than enough inspiration to accomplish my goal.

Since I got my 8x10 about 3 months ago it sat idle for about a month until some film arrived and I've shot about 50 since then - arriving in a week is 150 sheets more 8x10 and 35 sheets 11x14 (to force me to build the 11x14 rear standard) - maybe its new camera excitement, but I *really enjoy it* so I'm expecting per year to be 200+ easily...

It seems that I have a schedule that goes 1 day shoot (8 pics or so), one day develop, 3 days printing, 1~2days off ... then back into it - not in any particular order though. After today I'll have a back log of 16 or so to develop and print (Pt/Pd) ...

So with that in mind a rough estimate would be 8x52 = 416

I plan on using Ektachrome also, that might reduce usage as I'll plot/scheme photos a lot more carefully after looking at the developing costs.

I'm averaging between 4-8 sheets (2-4 locations, duplicate shot of each, just in case) of 8x10 every Sunday morning (deep in the heart of Phoenix), depending on how close my locations are to each other, so about 400 sheets of 8x10 a year. And probably 80-100 4x5 Readyloads/Quickloads also.

4x5: twenty to twenty-five sheets B&W per year; about the same E-6. The past couple of years has allowed less time for shooting than in the past, but hopefully the future will allow more.

4x5 5x7 and 8x10 all mixed together about 250 - 300 sheets (B&W) this last year.
4x5 is getting less use than the other two formats but i use it for color, 30-50 sheets of color in addition to the B&W.

I got my 12x20 camera less than a year ago and Im on my 7th box of 25 sheets.
So I guess thats 200 sheets of film a year.

7x17 - at least 75 - 125 sheets a year, 8 x 10 well over 100, closer to 150. It's the summers in Arizona that slow me down, but I try to get out of town then to beat the heat and find cooler weather and places to photograph...

Ohh, the weather is no good here in western Oregon, i am just trying my best to keep Ilford, Kodak and the rest in business.
Sometimes though, it happens that there is something on the film that i can use to kill some time in the darkroom.

Thanks all for your responses, it gives me a sense of what people are doing. What's your workflow like, do you develop and print after every shoot, once a week, a month? Also, what percentage of shots are keepers? Thanks again.

probably 100-200 sheets of 4x5 and 40-80 or so of type 55.
Id say 3/4 are keepers the rest are jumbled in a drawer.
I swear some day i will shoot my 12x20. I just need film and a pack mule then im off.
