I guess it's my fault.I made the mistake of picking up a magazine,Outdoor Photographer last year. They had a black and white special that seemed interesting enough and the subscription was cheap-so I figured even if it were not the best mag out there I wouldn't be loosing alot of money.Well, suffice it to say I let the subscription drop after year one.Too much in the digital this and that for my taste but I'm not downing them for it,nor the huge amount of adds and the like(only a small fraction of the mag actually devoted to its namesake IMO)But after thre months of constant "last chance" renewal notices and several consecutive phone calls where I kep saing NO-some only a day later it all seemed to stop.Until this week-now I've got a "holiday special renewal notice"-Good grief guys,no is no,if I don't want your freaking magazine, leave it go-move on and for the sake of the outdoors, nature itself which you profess to be so interested in,stop adding to the waste problem and killing trees by trying to convince me,intimidate me or pressure me into buying your magazine.Like I said,it's probabaly my fault for not investigating further into the mag by looking at a few more issues first but I know one thing-I'll not make the same mistake twice...

They are having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that their mag sucks.

I feel your pain. I had one of those kids come to my door - you know the one, "I'm trying to get off the streets and my ticket to a better life is selling magazine subscriptions for 4x the cover price." Well, I decided to do it this time and chose Outdoor as my mag. They delivered the first one four months late AND charged my account for the three mags they never sent. I did get the account reconciled, but then something worse happened. I started getting the magazine. I have also now cancelled for the same reasons. It sure is getting tough to find decent photography publications.

I was a charter subscriber, but now I refuse to buy it. Yes, the magazine really sucks. However, I found a great replacement for it - a magazine called "Nature's Best Photography", printed monthly on high quality paper and is oversized. Simply great; no articles about digital cameras, no Photoshop articles, nothing but articles on photography (most shot on film).

I have tried to get the British magazine "Outdoor Photography" but it seems impossible here in DK. Does anyone know that mag and is it the same quality as Ailsa's wonderfull "Black & White Photography" ?
Sorry

Hello Søren,

It's published by the same company as "Black & White Photography". Details can be found here...

Yes, I am familiar with the magazine. The quality is quite good, there are more articles on locations (mostly UK) than anything else. However, the current issue has been redesigned (and I have not seen it yet). I buy it whenever I am able to, which seems to be 1 or 2 issues a year - it is hard to get here.

Most of the big bookstores have them, but I have often found them in the nature section, not the photography section.

One thing; I should be more precise of my description of the magazine. The articles aren't about photographic techniques and principles, rather they are articles featuring photographic essays. The last issue had a great article by Frans Lanting on Pu'u O'o volcano (Hawaii) - the images of the flowing lava were stunning. There was also an article on gorillas. Great magazine. They also have a yearly photography contest.

Me too! It used to be a decent magazine. I think I still have the very first issue in a box somewhere, but long ago I stopped my subscription due to quality issues. Thanks for the tip on the other mag by the way. It sounds pretty good.
