Without any interest in refueling the tired analog vs digital debate,I recently tackled to find ananswer to the question'how many Mpx does one really need to get the sameor similar resolution as in film. The answer I came up with is:Assuming that I'm competing with a film capable of around 100 lp/mm and I use a lens capable of a similar resolution36 Mpx willget you there. This is sim ilar to my experience with the Nikon D800.To match a 125 lp/mm film one would need closer to 60Mpx but 24 Mpx is all one needs if the lenses can't do any better than 50 lp/mm.
Comments more than welcome but please no analog vs digital flame war. They are both great with their individual benefits.I do and love bothand wouldn't want to be restricted to either one
