How many of you have a library of books by the legends of Photography? I myself have about 50, but that's only because I can't afford more.

I have maybe around ten of those books.

Practically none. I almost only have technical books.

I have about 2,000 photographic books I've been buying them for about 60 years.my wife is an avid reader and has loads of books too our house is full.of them.

five - 10 for me ... Robert Frank, Bresson, Doisneau, Capa, Bourke-White, August Sander and one or two collections of various photographers.

I have a couple hundred..sold off a number during hard times.Bad idea.I think that books are still the best way to discover and enjoy other photographers.Better than galleries. The very first photography book I ever noticed was one that I passed on....but then searched frantically for years later..and finally found. It was a lesson for me.I buy on impulse.Never regret a purchase..I am always glad when I can go and pull a monograph off the shelf and look through anothers eyes.

A bunch.

I have 12 to 15 books on/by photographers who particularly inspire me (Michals, Tress, Newman, Morell, Madoz, and Samaras) as well as a few anthologies. Good photo books are expensive, so while I would like to have a more complete of canonical photographers, I have let to start building one.

I have about a meter long shelf full of photobooks, but only a few of them are by/about one specific photographer, Capa, DD Duncan, Produkin-Gorskii.

Practically none. I almost only have technical books.

Though if can get some interesting monograph for cheap, I'll take it.
It just came to my mind that actually my latest buy was such: Heinrich Kühn

More than two hundred. Mostly first editions and many signed. Predominately b&w but some color as well. One way to add to your collection is to request a particular book when asked what you would like as a gift for a birthday etc.

Around 300 monographs and another 100 technical. Its an obsession. Though a monograph can only suggest the appearance of a photographer's print, I do find them helpful in my personal journey. Having limited money to spend, a sequence of prints in a book, whether a retrospective or on a particular topic, are far more instructive than a collection of a few prints of comparable value.

Over several decades I've accumulated a few meters of shelf space of photographic books, more technical than monographs. It was illuminating to compare 27 of the photographs in Ansel Adams: Classic Images with the same images in the large Adams exhibit in Peoria last year. Adams claimed that such quality reproduction came close to his intent in the originals. I agree: not identical, but close enough for us to appreciate his talent. Many other books compiled from his images in the public domain lag dismally behind.
