How many film cameras do you own?

I didnt know which discussion to put it under so i put it under the 35mm forum but it can apply to any film camera. I only own 1, a Rolleiflex SL35. I dont need another.

(maybe ill get a range finder one day, i dunno)

im stuck in a world where leicas are the only film cameras in existence. I was extremely lucky to own that rolleiflex.

I have a few, at least 30, mainly folders, MF and 35mm, the pride and joy of my MF's are my 2 rollei's, a rolleiflex and a rolloeicord, and for 35mm my pride and jiy cameras are my Ambi Sillette Rangefinder complete with 90,59 and 35mm lenses, my Werra 4 complete with a full set of lenses and my Voightlander Vittessa folder, and they all get used,I don't have any so called Modern cameras, the newest is my Rolleicord Va II from 1961, to me they are a joy to use in either format

Eight, (1 35mm range finder, 1 compact 35mm,1 medium format TLR, and 5 35mm S.L.R.'s.) I am not an compulsive camera buyer, I have only bought one of my cameras in the last twenty five years and don't expect to buy any more in this lifetime.

3 Sinars with a little less than dozen modern lenses, mostly Schneider or Rodenstock: 47, 58, 65, 72, 90, 115, 180, 210, 240, 300
4 Deardorffs with a bunch of Dagors/Artars 3 5/8, 4 3/8, 6, 6.5, 8.25, 9.5 12, 14 19, 24 (some in multiples).

So I guess 20, but I probably forgot one or two.

Over 40 - I collect cameras which is an entirely separate activity to photography. I use perhaps ten of them - and I have at least one (currently three) loaded with film and actively in use at any given time.

I usually have between 3 and 5 cameras at any given time, all loaded with film and being shot with. I am constantly trading/buying/selling as I really enjoy trying out different cameras, but never get attached to any in particular. Currently I have 3:

Silver Olympus Stylus Epic DLX

I'm sure this will be changing in the next week or two as I'm ready to move the F along and try something else...lol

Never counted but somewhere around 100. However I find that of late the only one that I use routinely is a Bessa-R with a variety of lenses.

For film cameras, I haven't overdone it:

Minolta 7s Rangefinder - travel. Some of my best shots in the last year or two. Just appeals to me on some aesthetic level. Pretty fantastic camera for the size.

Mamiya RB setup - studio setups with lighting & planning.

AF Nikons - N90s, 8008s, and 8008 with polaroid back - studio. Lots of glass for those.

Nikon FG - studio, but when I'm feeling retro.

Canon FTQL - was my trip camera until the minolta.

Cambo 4x5 - lately just for duping things and experimenting. It used to pay the rent before pixels happened.

2 Polaroid 100's - got some film stashed, use 'em in the studio if there's time post-shoot to fool around. Really love those.

Next will be a Mamiya 645 1000s - I just kinda like the old metal and leather stuff.

All of those have film in them, and get rotated for use daily (except all of the Canonets).

As for what I have, I can only approximate. I have every format from 16mm subminis, to 4x5 Graflex.My best guess would be about an additional 120 cameras, not including those listed above.

So about 150 in total.

Far too many and still haven't found the "love of my life". But, perhaps I have found and don't know yet.

The one I have most (8x) and the one I keep going back to is a humble Nikon EM.

Around 80 I think, that work. Another decent sized box of broken bodies that look like they may someday be repairable. It ranges from box cameras from the early 1900s up to my newest which is a Nikon F5. All medium format and 35mm with a few old 8 and super 8mm movie cameras tossed in.

I'm sure I don't know, perhaps 30~40 and that includes three 'plastic fantastic' 35mm types. Latest addition to my film cameras is a Minox IIIs that I'm still working out a work flow for. If I could I'd dump about half of my "collection" today. But that is too much work.

(I know good and well how it happened, of course. A lot of these things were unattainable objects of desire for me growing up behind the counter of a camera shop and later working in minilabs and as a photog's assistant. Being poor as a churchmouse and getting to handle cameras that cost more than my old car apparently laid a craving on me that stuck. When I found out recently that you could get, say, a Leica R4 from KEH for <$100, I might have gone a little overboard. )

Many, and I'm not sure why because I only use a tiny percentage of them. I think it goes back to a sense of cameras being quite valuable objects, and waking up to find they are not and being unable to understand why. Like a currency that has been massively devalued, people might still find it difficult to light their cigars on £20 notes even when it's as economical as using a match, and choose to keep bank notes as a folk memory. On the other hand, many of the cameras I'm most sentimentally attached to occupied the bottom rungs of the price ladder. This may be penance for the years I spent chasing the false Gods of sharpness, definition and other senseless abstractions.
