For a week in Scotland earlier this year it was a Nikon F80 and Nikkors (28-105, 70-300, 50mm f1.8), Mamiya C330S (80mm, 55mm, 180mm), Rollei 35 Tessar, Pentax Spotmeter V, Westonmaster and a Manfrotto 055 ProB. Everything got used except for the fast fifty.

Via air... Yesssss, well...

I was going to France this year, then the insanity broke out. I simply refuse to put my cameras in checked baggage, so I cancelled the trip.

The channel-hoppers they use for those trips restrict you to 10 kilos anyway, so when I finally head over there I'll have to pick and choose.

More extended trip using the car? (2 weeks plus)

FWIW) I've had photo equipment in a Peli case carried as checked baggage on a few flights between Norwich and Scotland without mishap. Latest was June this year.

It's a thought.

However when Ryanair can get me there and back for two bottle tops and a pint of Guinness (a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea...) I may just opt to restrict myself to the Mamiya and the Rollei.

Or the Nikon and the Rollei.

And the Manfrotto in the hold.

Or not.

Arrrrrggggghhhhhh!!!

Frank, that insanity has stopped and made me think as well. I was considering going to the UK next summer, but I'm not going if I can't take my gear with me on the airplane. I am willing to buy my film in the UK (even though it is much more expensive than the US), but I'm not leaving a camera home or checking into luggage.

This nonsense is going to start hurting tourism as well. I just read yesterday that the amount of checked luggage in the US has risen dramatically, because of the nonsense about carrying on liquids, and is causing an increased number of bags to go missing. The airlines are complaning, but the TSA isn't listening.
