Three years ago I settled on TMY-2 120 for all my work. I shoot it at 320 and pushed to 800.

I use Xtol replenished for both

At university we only had ID-11, so for three years I didn't even realise that you could try different developers, duh!
After I left uni, I tried to find an easy alternative because I had never mixed a powder developer before and I was a bit worried about it, so I tried Rodinal, but I didn't like it that much.
I shoot a lot of Kodak Tri-X (120) and I develop it with HC110 (dilution B) or Diafine.
I have tried Ilford Ilfotec DD-X to push HP5 (120) to 1600 iso and I love it, but it's quite expensive.
Now I'm also using Microphen to develop sheets (5x4) of Foma 100.
I'd like to experiment more combinations, so I have got quite a few developers on my shelves, I'll probably update in the future

hey stone

i haven't had film processed at walmart in over a year (i went with my daughter, 11 at the time to send out a roll of fuji to fuji)
it was when they still gave back the negatives ...
i used to go to sam's when there was one near me, it closed 2 years ago .. .
but 6months before they closed they stopped send out service.
fuji used to ( dwaynes ) process all my color and chromo b/w ...
they probably processed 200+ rolls of my color film, and movie footage.
i used to laugh when i got a note with the film " problem with your camera "

i get my coffee at amazon.com for drinking ( pump seiko espresso machine, or perk, or stovetop vacuum pot )
and locally i bought 75lbs for my film ... the world knows that target is cheaper to shop at than walmart,
and none of the "made in usa" stickers don't fall off ... why would i shop at wallys ? :munch:

because i would purposely over or under expose, double/ triple expose or otherwise purposely not do things "right"
and the lab had no idea it was ME not my machine

i can't complain, fuji and dwaynes do a good job

So you brew up a liter or so of Sumatra brew and then add in your other items such as the soda, ansco 130 and vitamin C? What strength do you brew the coffee at? Do you like yours weak or strong?

hi pioneer i brew it in a perk just as i would drink it ... 1 "scoop" / cup and an extra for the pot ..
so for my 11"cup" perkolater i put in 12 scoops ( which translates to 24 tablespoons ) .
then i let it cool a bit
then the soda
and stir
then the vit c and it foams ...

then a wee bit of ansco 130 ....
i use stock solution, or spent from 50 prints
i'm not too particular, my film is happy either way

i don't use it 1 shot like a lot of people use caffenol, but i use it until i get nervous it is dead ...
which tends to be after 3 or 4 months of continual film and print processing ...

I voted one, for one at a time. Which one that is varies however. D76 when I was learning, or when I've shared a darkroom and that was what the darkroom stocked (I like it fine, but don't want to deal with powders at home). HC-110 dilutions E or H at home for some years, then Tetenal Ultrafin (worked well, went off too soon, but had the courtesy to turn a funny colour before dying), and Mörsch EFD for the last year or so.

All right. This sounds like fun.

Fresh brewed caffenol here I come. I got all the mixings except the Ansco 130. I wonder, does Photo Formulary sell Ansco 130? I'll have to go searching.

So what is the acronym for film processing acquisition syndrome?

Two. I use either Rodinal (Adonal) at 1:50 or HC-110 at 1:50 approximately; one shot. They have different acutance. Use the same measurements by volume 12ml in 600ml water both developers. HC-110 is US concentrate.

Here's one I've been liking a lot

I've been on this Adonal thing for a while but still use D76 1:3 regularly. As an Adonal aside, attached is a 300 DPI color scan of a 5x7 print, G1 Ilford Multigrade RC. It's a nothing scene almost exactly down-sun at 16:00hrs., Tri-X at EI 1000 stand developed in Adonal 1:100 for 60 minutes at about 69 degrees. The upper line on the image is one inch on the print. The lower line is 16mm on the print, so 1mm on the negative.

If you're one of those micro grain folks this just won't cut it but, even at 16x20, I don't mind it at all.

I've settled on two developers:
  • PC-TEA 1+50
  • Rodinal usually @ 1+100

I mainly use PC-TEA, but for certain films like APX 100 and 400, I'll use Rodinal, depending on subject and my mood. I always use PC-TEA for sheet films in the Paterson Orbital.

However, the other day, just for a change, I souped a roll of APX 100 in Rodinal 1+50, and really liked the results.

And, as a result of trading some phenidone with a fellow Wellingtonian & Apugger ((there was a url link here which no longer exists)), I ended up with some 510-Pyro. I dunked my other roll of APX 100 in that, diluted 1+100, and that's nice too.

So, it's two in-house plus one guest developer. Or two home-made ones and one commercial. The one thing they all have in common is very long shelf lives.

If I had to stick to just one, it'd be PC-TEA.

store bought arabica won't do the trick ...

I use no more than three, with two being my "work horses" (XTol for HP5 in MF and 35mm, also used for slower films when I use them. HC110 for TXP320 in LF)

When I need to push, then TMax works fine.

I try to use them all one-shot, so that I can rely on them.

there are 2 different kinds of beans, arabica ( shade grown, expensive, yadda yadda yadda )
all the high grade coffee shops sell that ( except in the espresso but that's another thread )
you will have to hunt around the internet to find robusta beans. a lot are grown in vietnam
and indonesia, but still there are some varieties in african and central/south america ...

i have lots of them, and would be happy to sell you some ...
