I share interests similar to Theo Sulphate and enjoy exploring the many ways that designers and manufacturers set about on how to take a picture. If somebody finds purchasing a camera difficult now, just imagine how impossible it would have been when cameras and photographic equipment cost real money.
However, camera need depends upon camera use. I have a variety of Minox subminiature cameras because they are discrete, but some are more discrete than others. 35mm rf and slr cameras are used in various sizes. Some medium format cameras are more portable (Super Ikonta B), some are compact but still bulky and yet have redeemable features (Medalist 100mm Ektachrome), some have interchangeable lenses (Hasselblad). I admit to only a single 4x5, a wooden Wista.
There are times when a different camera of the same type, Leica sm, Leica M, an Contax just has a different feel in the hand. A little like changing the thickness of a pen or pencil barrel when drawing.
